Sandcrawler
The Jawa Sandcrawler - slowly combing the sands of Tatooine.
About this creation
This sandcrawler took a few months to complete the first time around, then another week later on took care of a few details (last few pics). The first version was actually built and completed a week or two the official LEGO model was announced. I have not yet been able to compare the two, but I believe mine is a little bigger in dimensions, but of course it doesn't have the playability of the LEGO model.

The color scheme is based on multiple images I've collected of the sandcrawler and sandcrawler models.

I gave it a bit of a 'patched up' look, but I think that the idea the movie model gave was that it had a similar paint job to this years and years before the sands wore it down.

The little bit of yellow in the top middle there is my only hint(so far) of the interior lighting.

I made the original top tan - partially because various images I'd seen suggested this color, but mostly because I didn't have enough brown. :)

It took a LOT of work to get the various panels to meet flush up against each other.

These treads will actually move - but only if it's on a carpet. They are too tightly wrapped around the gears to do anything other then slide around on smooth surfaces.

Yes, that ramp is what you think it is. :)
I originally used tan for the tread housings.

It's not as easy finding good pictures of the back end of the crawler, so a lot of this is just made up.

The entire top can come off as one piece, as do the sides.

To make sure the panels meet together and stay that way, I used rubber bands.

The interior is mostly hollow - and multi colored. :)

This is my second version of the crawler.

The tread housings are now brown.

... as is the top, and now fully detailed.

I also altered the top of the side to have a little clearer 'window'.

Hey I was wondering how we could get a build of this? would you sell the instructions? or give them away? I really need one of these for a brick film

Incredible! However, the interior REALLY needs some help. With all those support beams, it shouldn't be too hard to make platforms, and I know it would be simple to fill it up (just fill it up with some bley pieces; they're perfect for junk)

My favorite part has got to be that brick separator landing stip.

This is a fantastic effort on a very difficult shaped vehicle. I think it is better than the official set to look at but does not have the interior. The detailing and colour are as good as it gets and I like the rubber band idea, I'll be having ago at this technique.
