VRMS-MT-001 "M-Type mk I" and Variants
First of the Third Generation mecha. This mecha is heavily based off the "Zenith" series of wanzers from the Front Mission Series. This was the mecha design that I attempted to improve with the MID-001, for those of you who noticed any similarities.
About this creation
VRMS-MT-001-002 “M-Type mk I-II Series”

With the alliance between the Ancient Remnant and the Targonian Republic came the advent of abundant resources and larger production facilities than the Remnant had previously enjoyed. For the first time, the possibility of truly mass produced armament was at hand for the alliance. Up to this point, most mecha, fighters and munitions that the Remnant had constructed were essentially custom jobs, with each unit being painstakingly built one at a time. Though some of the units numbered in the hundreds, they were hardly mass produced.

As a symbol of the newly forged Alliance, ARMS was merged with Targonian Mecha Systems to form Void Resistance Mecha Systems. As a symbol of this merger, Remnant scientists worked with Targonian developers on a mass produced model of mecha. The result of this collaboration was the M-Type “Mass Produced” Series. Far more powerful than the ubiquitous Void “Nightmare” Series of mecha, the M-Type Series would be able to engage nearly 10 times its numbers and emerge victorious and function in a wide variety of roles. It was a truly ambitious undertaking, allowing the Alliance to take the battle to the Void forces for the first time in the war.

VRMS-MT-001 “M-Type mk I”

The M-Type mk I was the first of a series of third generation of highly advanced mecha. The designers of the mk I envisioned it taking over the roles of the ageing G and S-Type series, but expanding on them in a way that neither series could have accomplished on its own.

Working from the X-Type mk III prototype, the developers created a mecha that would be much larger than its predecessors, but with a modular design that would be easy to mass produce.

For armament, the basic M-Type mk I carried little more than 14 onboard mid-range missiles, stored in its shoulder and leg racks. However, the real strength of the design came from its optional armaments which could be mounted in the hands, or on hard points on the shoulders. For long range combat, the mk I had an available handheld heavy laser rifle and dual heavy laser cannon options for the shoulders. For mid range combat, the mk I had a hand mounted heavy laser chain gun, and shoulder mounted missile launchers. For melee, the mk I had a hand carried heavy beam sword and shoulder mounted shield/boosters. The armaments could also be mixed and matched to adapt to any mission role needed.

The designers worked to give the M-Type mk I greater durability than its predecessors as well, allowing it to survive in more harsh environments and under the strain of heavier gravity than the second generation mecha. It had heavier armor and shielding, and its construction allowed even the impact of its punches to result in devastating damage to a target. Its drive system was a new photon-ion type which would eventually become standard on all third generation mecha. The photon-ion drive was powerful enough to allow the mecha to attain escape velocity or hover within a gravitational field without the use of anti-grav plates.

Nearly 2000 M-Type mk Is would be produced over the course of the next 2 years. There are currently nearly 1340 still remaining in service. After their introduction, they fulfilled their designers’ expectations, turning the tide of battle again and again. However, eventually the mk I would be outclassed by the later Void mass produced mecha, such as the Frost mk II. High Command would eventually turn its attention to other mass produced designs and the M-Type design would ultimately be abandoned. However, the M-Type still stands as setting a watermark for efficiency, versatility and durability that future designs will be hard-pressed to match.

VRMS-MT-001SC “M-Type mk ISC ‘Solus Custom’”

Probably the most radical variant of the M-Type, the M-Type mk IaSC “Solus Custom”, was, as the name implies, custom built for the use of Solus Maximus during the final phases of the “Planetary Overthrow Initiative”. While, overall, the initiative was a resounding success, Solus' team had chosen the heavily defended planet of Ylandra for the final phase of the campaign. Early on, the team’s mobile command centre had been destroyed, forcing the team to go to ground.

The ship section of the stealth transport managed to get back to the Void Resistance HQ on Targon IV, but due to political manoeuvring, no backup was to be sent. The pilot of Max’s transport turned to the Professor for help.

The Professor took an M-Type mk I unit and modified it according to Solus' combat data that had been retrieved by the pilot. The result was the M-Type mk IaSC.

The mk IaSC was not superficially different from its mk I brethren. However, the machine was tuned specifically for Ylandran gravity and for space combat. The controls were upgraded, and were tuned specifically for Solus' abnormally high reflexes.
Perhaps the most radical changes to the unit however, were in its armaments. While it would be compatible with all standard M-Type mk I armament, several custom weapons were created for the mk IaSC to take advantage of Solus' piloting capability. The most obvious change was the addition of a rack of “super” remote weapons, based directly off of the ones that were being tested on the X-Type mk IV. Solus' increasing psychic abilities would give him the ability to easily handle the weapons system. The unit was also equipped with an overcharged version of the SWD-0054B “Caladbolg” beam sword. Finally, the mk IaSC was also outfitted with high yield MRMs, giving it an edge in ranged combat.

Only one M-Type mk IaMS was ever produced. It was launched immediately after production, and was ferried to Ylandra where it was launched from orbit to Solus' location on the planet’s surface. Solus retrieved the unit, and used it to great effect, completing the ground phase of the campaign shortly thereafter. The unit met its end during the shipyard phase of the campaign, when it was unsuccessful in engaging the stolen enemy W-Type mk IIIA.

Quoting ccy 8086 Very nice build here. for a mecha. but for Zenith, the shouder should be a little higher at least I suggest. Any way, you don't call it Zenith so it should be fine. I like it.
Thanks man. No, its not the Zenith, definitely. I just borrowed a lot from it, because its so cool.

Quoting Gab BOIDOT Very nice variation of the best wanzer! I've just finish mine, which support easily the comparison to the original from the FM series. Your's is very big whereas mine is small.. Well done !
Yay! Someone likes this! This is one of my favorites and yet no one seems to like it. I'm a big fan of the Front Mission series. This particular version is a bit more tall and skinny than the classic Zenith Wanzer from Front Mission 1. I was going for a resemblance rather than a replica. And I had to make it fit a minifig.

Very good work, I think the shoulder attachments really make these variants look aggressive. That humongo chain gun too! I like the way you built the shoulders and the area at the top of chest. Very cool.
