MOColympics Round 1, Grp 2C
Well, round one for me was "Space Pirates", which either meant something along the lines of "Ice Pirates", or "Treasure Planet". The idea was to build an MOC putting pirates in space. Building a regular space ship and slapping on some piratical spacey dudes did not seem to make as much sense to me as going the Aqua-Castle route. To be sure, that would be a whole new thing for me and a challenge, so that is where I went with this. I have precious little old-generation pirate parts and no money for new-generation pirates, so I did the best that I could. So, here is Captain Brown Beard and his "Treasure Planet"-esque pirate sloop, the Grey Skull.
About this creation

You scurvy dog, Brown Beard! You stole your own back story from this MOCpage!

Just a quick note, the sails are all supposed to be solar panels, for solar sailing. The engines make it go.

So, how do they breathe in space with a ship like this? I would forward all questions like this to Disney.

Here we see the chair and control screen for target locks for the laser cannon, yes, that is a pun of sorts, which rotates around -- the cannon and chair, not the control screen.

Love the movie. Your ship is just like captain Flint's or Silver's (in the start of the movie when the Inn is destroyed) and I love the design! Good job I will post mine soon check it out!

Quoting Keith Goldman This is unfortunate. I bet more than a couple of people in Round 2 are breathing a collective sigh of relief. I'm not saying you would have medaled, but you would have gone far.
I coulda been a contender, I coulda knocked a few heads around. Plus, I got lots of surprises up my sleeves.

There's no way you should have been disqualified because of the lack of link, especially as this is sooo awesome. Ah well, what can you do?

I'm with Chris, it's sad that you don't make Round 2 for a "bad" reason... Anyway it's really one of the better entries of Round 1 !

Great build here, its everything I thought space pirates could be ...and more! However, you didn't link to your opponent, so I can't give you my vote (though I otherwise would). He linked to you. I am hoping that Kelso gives you his vote and pushes you into round II. YOU HEAR THAT MARK?

Quoting Mark Kelso Let me apologize first, if you get confusing comments from me. I'm having loading problems again (gotta love MOCpages) and it's causing me some headaches resulting in a mix-up. This comment is the one to go with. Aaaaaanyway...Alan, you're killin' me, man! I've made it a point with the others to disqualify entries that don't provide links as stated in the rules. You're build's got Joe's beat without question, but I'm afraid, in fairness, I've got to give my vote to Joe. Great build, but sorry to say...hit the showers.
Yah, I have not showered in a few days... How you know that fact is what worries me. Sorry I am killin you; I knew about that rule, but at the time of posting it slipped my mind and it was just oversight. But that is okay, I own up to my mistakes and this one is my bad. Good luck to Joe, he's got his shot to be a contender. :)

While I've not agreed with every decision that the judges have made so far, none of those decisions have made me want to override them more than this one. However, as I've stated many times, I cannot override them and their word is law. Why I didn't go and just make myself high lord all powerfull overseer I'll never know. Remind me to kick both of em in the junk next time I see them. Sorry man ~ Chris.

BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL! Sorry, just had to do it :D But yeah, great moc! If I can put some opinion in here, I'd say there should be a tad less brown and more gray, and also, just because they're pirates doesn't mean their ship has to be open topped, but since you were going for the "Treasure Planet" look, (sweet movie btw) you can dismiss that last part ;P

Quoting Giovanni Seynhaeve Nice one Alan! Good thinking with the solar panels! You get my vote!
Thanks; not to be long winded, but the trans clear panels with the handle that came with the Lego-NASA sets a few years ago just did not cut it, and I have had these panels around forever with no use for them, so here we go. Aaaand I am shutting up now.

Aside from no link to Joe's page.... (grrr) This thing is AWESOME! It fits the category perfectly and you got bonus points for mentioning "Ice Pirates" (one of my favs). Good luck with the judges! ~ Chris.

For some reasons, I think this is really appealing and enjoyable. The large slopes for the sails works really well. The details are nice. Excellent work, good luck !
