Classic G.A.I.A Rail Gun Frigate - 09 "Hope"
Rated 5 out of 5 Change your rating   Zoom in  Zoom in
When G.A.I.A historians sought to track the emergence of Humanaity's first step towards the class of ship they currently take for granted, they arrived after much research at a long forgotten page of human history. Four thousand years ago when NASA declared war on Eurospace, the battles were many and wide spread. Euro-Space eventually tiring of the sensless destruction gambled that there was only one "Hope" in forcing the peace. They worked tirelesy in secret sacrificing much ground and many lives to safe gaurd there secret development, being undertaken within the unpatrolled and unwatched asteroid belt. And then on what seemed the eve of NASA's total victory, Euro-Space flew towards Earth's orbit in something new, something unimaginable. It was humantiy's first ever Capital space ship. And its mere existance immediately ended the war. Now as the recently arrived alien threat seeks to wipe out the holy union of G.A.I.A, we have gone back to older designs, extreme and heavy, these are the engines of destruction.

Quoting David Roberts I thpught that this MOC had to be LDD at first: it's so large & detailed! I think that the blend of spaceship/seaship works really well in this MOC. It makes sense that people would take design ideas from battleships to build the first space-going warships. The tank looks great too. Is the red Classic Space brick on the front a sticker or an original part?
There used to be more pics of it until the great crash a year ago. Cheers dude, actually, I cheated a bit, the red you see was all made in blue bricks which I edited to red for the look of the Bretonnica theme.

Quoting Eric Tse Pretty nice Capital ship. Could have used more weaponry and the tower may have been too big in relation to the overall size of the ship.
Yeah its a pretty big bridge up there, and don't worry, the next one's going to be dripping with firepower. thanks for the commentary...

Quoting John Beck This is fantastic. It's huge and has a great color scheme. It feels like classic space to me. Any more pictures of the interior?
Hey John, long time no hear. Thought you'd like this one mate, unfrotunately no real interior shots, too much a micro-scale model for any appreciable detail inside. Cheers...

Quoting Alan Crisp Very nice. I had the hardest time trying to determine whether this was minifig scale or microscale until the end. That long, flat body with a bridge mast with lots of antennae works, and reminds me a little of something from 5th Element. Just one thing: the engines. I like those power miner pieces as engines -- if I had them, I would use them as such -- but they seem a little abrupt on the end of this ship. I got no ideas, but there it is. Otherwise, a very nice classic-space ship.
Thanks Alan. Yeah I was dying to use those as an engine piece, and never found an opportunity until now. I understand your point, but I was only ever going to finish at the back with rocket pieces in any event on this one, and so went with what I did. And like you mentioned, I also wouldn't really know how else to finish this one. Cheers mate, and thanks for getting this to double figures!

Quoting Ed Bangor Looks nice, the turrets especially. It looks like the railguns on the sides of the ship look like they are sagging a bit. Overall, still very nice. I never understood why every space frigate necessitates being a capital ship. Technically, if a comparable battleship class exists, frigates are no longer capital ships. Modern frigates are (usually) under 500ft. The space shuttles, by comparison, are almost 200ft. I'd think capital ships would be bigger.
Cheers Ed. Yeah I agonized on the term frigate, but stayed with it as compared tp the other Capital ships planned in my theme, "Hope" is the smallest. It's just that in the backstory, humans are still flying around in LL 928's etc. , so when something like this makes it's first ever debut, I just felt that it could not be called anything but a Capital ship. But yes, on Earth's current seas a Frigate is most certainly not a capital ship. Lets face it, Aircraft carriers and submarines have practically made Battleships obsolete. Cheers.

Thankyou Mark, your comment has just hit the proverbial nail of my intention right on the head. I just love that color scheme! Just as well because between yourself and 2x4, I think my favorite TV show ever B.S.G is well and truly covered! Cheers...

Quoting Yuri Fassio Wow. Yuo canbuild these mavellous ships without taking away that nostalgic feeling. I see your Classic stuff and I'm back to christmas '82... Bravo.
Cheers Yuri, it's kind of funny but my own 'Dark Age' pretty much started while classic space and such was still on the shelves. It was the Starwars sets that recently got me back into the hobby, and funnily enough, the second I start making my own stuff, it's in classic style! Thanks for the comments...
