G.I. Joe Sky Hawk
About this creation
COMPLETED -- 09/01/09

- Round 2, Group 1G - Opponent, Topsy Cret -

- Vehicles Category - G.I. Joe Sky Hawk -

I was pretty happy to get Vehicles and after many hours and close to completion I found I had absolutely no love for what I'd been building, it was just bleh... My Nephew came over yesterday and while messing around with Lego with him I decided to start fresh and try to build a Sky Hawk; he totally agreed that'd be awesome. I maxed out my green collection and after some unorthodox (for me) part usage, I was finished with my first ever G.I. Joe vehicle! This is only the second time I've built a MOC of a 'real world' design and trying to emulate something is tough but forces creativity.

Recondo and his Sky Hawk. I'm happy with the resemblance.

Just a note to any of you really big G.I. Joe fans, this is actually designed after a fairly newly released Ghost H.A.W.K toy, the differences are slight and might be noticeable but I still wanted to call it a Sky Hawk for old times sake.

Sorry for the wonky photography, I was having major issues fixing the white balance and was never quite able to fix it and ended up adding a bit too much saturation as well.. bah.

Here's a pic that's a little less sea sick.

Thanks for looking! Best of luck to you Topsy Cret!

Nice colours, clever parts usage, and a clean build; however, my vote went to originality on this one and your opponent received my vote. Lee.

Yep, this is rather small and "uninspired" for your normal doing. But still interesting part usage and the nostalgia...well, yeah Chris... Good luck with the judges!

The nostalgia trip was AWESOME and your build is great. I had to give my vote to Topsy though based on his original idea for "vehicle". Good luck with the other judges! ~ Chris.

Not knowing what this is supposed to look like, I google imaged it and this bears a good likeness to what I found! I know what you mean about building from a "real world" design. Despite years of building with LEGO, it's only been recently that I've started doing MOCs based on "real world" designs and they are challenging, but ultimately very rewarding. Great build and Good luck!

Quoting Topsy Cret Having never seen the movie (s?), I can't tell the resemblance, but I do love those engines. This will be interesting... Good day
"This will be interesting..."??? Gaaah, I can't wait to see your round 2 entry! must have patience... This isn't in the new movie (sadly), it's from the original cartoon and comic book.

Cobra was better ;). In all seriousness though, this is a great MOC. It's fun to look at, and it's got some great play features built in too. That cockpit is fantastic! Best of luck in the MO!

I'm not too into GI Joe stuff, so I can't say if it's accurate, but knowing you, I'm sure it is ! Very complex and interesting build, the opening cockpit is great. Good luck !

Sweet! I was actually thinking of doing a MOC based in the Sky Hawk. Now I have this example to inspire me. This is very true to the original design as I recall. I love the cockpit controls and the way the canopy opens. The authentic color scheme is great too. Nice decals and unconventional articulation methods as well.
