Spinning 101
My entry for Yuri's Spinning Top Contest in the over 100 pieces category. Enjoy!
About this creation
My top has exactly 101 pieces, making it just barely fit into the over 100 pieces category. making a top this big is a challenge, but making one AND keeping track of how many pieces you used is truly a trying experience.

Top view of the top that will hopefully be top top in the top contest. TOP THAT!

The majority of the pieces are in this "Platewheel", which is really just a big circle of 1x2 plates that barely holds together. Originally, I was going to make a rip cord for this, but the top just wouldn't stay together.

Bottom view

spinning photo. it spins for about twenty to thirty seconds, which is a lot better than the original 5 or 6. thank God and the guy that invented those wheel elements that are slightly tapered on one side for a wider spinning surface!

Yuri's requirement seemed simple: just take a picture of your top when it's spinning. Little did I know that tops are extremely difficult to take pictures of. These were my best two out of many.

Thanks for viewing, let me know what you think!

Really cool! I think the colors were a nice touch. or else it would have just been gray.

SWEET! I've gotta agree, the 1x2 plate "wheel" is pretty awesome, and I know from experience(table scraps mostly)how fragile those things can be!

Quoting Scott Aldridge Awesome! I try fiddling with the 1x2 wheel design thing, but found it too flimsy. Especially when you find trans. red 1x2 tiles all over your kitchen floor. Also, this looks really cool when it's spinning. :D
yeah, I found that the more pieces you put into it, the more durable it becomes. there's less of a gap in between the outside studs, so it holds better. thanks for all the comments, guys!

This thing is really cool. The 1x2 tile stripe is great. And it looks like it spins really fast. Good luck in the contest.

Quoting Yuri Fassio Congratulations on 1st over 100 entry! This is quite cool, that 2x1 belt adds a very "technical" touch. I like it!
