There's a ridiculously large amount of people on MOCpages who can't take good pictures. I've posted this as a means of help. If you are having a hard time taking good pictures, please, take a look.
About this creation
Many people take their pictures like this. There's so many things wrong with that I would be here all after noon telling you. If you took a picture like that it would look like
This.
So, to prevent that, go to a room with lots of windows so that a non-yellow light is lighting up your pictures. Unlike house lights that will create a yellow color.
Set a piece of paper up against a wall on the floor or on a desk.
Take your camera and turn off the flash and turn on the "close up" setting. This setting is often represented by a flower. If you do not know how to do this, ask your parents or a sibling for help.
Set your model on the piece of paper and take the picture. One thing the guy in the picture did wrong, was that he's holding the camera with his hands. Doing so will make the camera shake and make the picture blurry. To prevent this, set it on a tripod, a small box, a book, anything.
If done correctly, the photo should look like so.
The picture would have looked like this if the minifig hadn't followed these steps. If he had posted this, he would have gotten comments like "Did you just sneeze on some paper? Cause that looks like snot man.".
I hope you've learned something from this lesson and I soon hope to see clearer pictures.

@Comment below: Thanks... My humor from when I was 13 was fairly dry. Not only that, but honestly, these pictures have so much film grain, I'd hardly call them clear from what I've come to learn about ISO and White balance. |

Yes, still grounded -_- Also, no, I haven't started drawing and.. I don't want to. You see, it's YOUR character, so YOU draw it. You can't just assume that you can't draw a wolf. i know you can. You just need to try. To help, get a reference picture and base your drawing off of that. C'mon. At least try. :D |

good point. My MOC's are so tall though that I need to use a sheet hanging on the wall, but same idea. Interestingly, I read somebody else's post on there and he takes all of his pictures at night, but uses a lamp for direct lighting so that he can control the shadow angles, giving his vignettes a more realistic lighting and perspective.
What I do, is I get the white sheet, open the windows, and turn on a light so it looks like the sun is shining in. I do that for out door creations. |

Hey thanks! I figured out a while ago that I needed to take pictures is natural light. However I just took them on my sidewalk. Recently I have been considering using a white background, but I wasnt sure what I needed to use. Also, I have a question, should I continue to take these outside, or just by a window? I also never new the need for stabilization, allso I always figured I needed a fancy tripod, Ill try using boxes. Even without the stabilization I eventualy got it right, but it took me forever! Like I said, thanks. =) |

Yes, I understand how frustrating it is to look through countless pages of poor photos, and it's great to make a little tutorial on it. I myself just can't seem to get great pictures. If you check out my page you can tell that the lighting is bad, and that some older pictures were off-center. But some things that you could add would be hints to get great lighting. Everyone on the site could use that help! |
