Trackside Tower
A trackside tower with unique railings made form Lego straws and minifig hands.
About this creation

After seeing a tower in a train magazine I thought building one would be fun. I did some research on the net and was surprised by the variety of designs out there.

My design was largely dictated by the stairs I chose to use. I wanted to use two sections in an "L" shape and that largely set the width of the building and the height of the second floor.

The railings are a bit unusual in ther design but by using the railing clipped to a railing design I was able to closely match the slope of the stairs with out bending parts.

A note to all hardcore Lego-ites. I did cut the straws to length. *GASP*.

I have also changed the roof since the picture was taken. You can see it in the background here:

I'm not much of a cutting-your-LEGO-pieces fan, but I've got to admit, that looks really good! Good day

Very nice! Has very "railroad-y" feel with the two-tone gray scheme. The handrailings are neat. -Stefan-

Like the way you used the tools and minifighands to make the railings :-)

The use of the hands is very cool. What are the vertical parts that the hands are stuck in? More straws? Not much for cut parts, but sometimes you just have to, to meet ends, and it looks very cool so I don't really care. Great work!

You did a great job. Very nice use of the tubing. I've seen this done before by others, but the first time I saw this was by Shaun Sullivan. He made railings on this battleship gun using pirate hooks (not sure if they had dark grey hands back then). Very good job! -P.S. Interior shots?
