LEGO Super Mario has been auctioned off for charity on Ebay.nl
The proceeds will go directly to Ronald McDonald, an organisation that arranges proper housing for relatives of hospitalized children, in the vicinity of clinics.
DATES :
Oct 22 - Oct 27 2009 : LEGOWORLD - Ijsselhallen ZWOLLE [NL]
Progress on this moc will be updated each day on my site
This is my first commission, my client is Game Mania ( number 1 videogames shop in Belgium and Holland ). With the kind permission of Nintendo Benelux, it should be making its debut on LegoWorld.nl
Day 14 : 16 October 2009
16 october : sideburns, eyes and cap appear, the moustache has been finished ( lvl 111 ). It's hard to level up when it takes an hour to build one layer. This particular layer has color complexity : tan, medium blue, white, black, reddish brown and red.
Next week I will personally reveal this sculpture on behalf of Game Mania at LEGO WORLD on the main stage, thursday 22 october between 16h-17h.
Afterwards Game Mania will auction the sculpture off on Ebay for charity.
Day 11 : 13 October 2009 GAME MANIA is doing a LegoWorld contest where you can win 4 tickets to LW2009, but only if you live in Belgium or Holland.
almost at the shoulders (lvl 87), the few tan pieces mark the beginning of what will be Mario's face
Day 8 : 10 October 2009
I finished Mario's gloves and they seem to fit me fine:
Day 5 : 7 October 2009
Today I started building the gloves, supported by temporary pillars ( in the picture layer 43 is being built ).
The three first layers of the glove are completely filled with bricks, and glued between seams, that alone took a couple of hours ( btw the entire model is glued on the studs ).
My work table is lowered from 80 to 42cm to facilitate construction.
Day 3 : 5 October 2009
Working the ankles in blue. Today Game Mania also started with a fat banner on their site, in the right pane. There's also an article about it in the local newspaper.
Day 1 : 3 October 2009
first tan-colored bricks for Mario's shoe sole, after finishing the massive footpiece ( est. brick count : 12,000 - 105 x 53 x 30 cm )
Preps :
Here you can see FLIPSIDE of the mosaic for the footpiece, a walkway of classic 8 bit NES Mario tiles, which consists of over 2000 bricks ( 99% 2x2 ).
This is an unauthorized blurry picture of Luigi (that may have to be removed) with the unfinished footpiece
although i never was a nin fan [sega!] i m impressed of the finished product, and it s beauty! it really is wonderful! i like very much that you filmed the construction of it! as it s not only intertaining, it s pretty amazing too! great work!
A videogame legend in LegoŽ! Amazing, simply amazing. :)

that is so awesome dude. i've been playing mario games forever. this is the best mario sculpture i've seen yet. you should try making bowser and re make mario in battle stance to make it look like he's fighting bowser.
