MOC Olympics Round 4: Chas Irish vs. Stacy Sterling
Round 4 of the MOC Olympics!
About this creation
Category: Clone Wars
Opponent: Stacy Sterling

On to the Story:

1 month after the Clone Wars started. The story takes place on a Separatist run planet.

I've been on this planet for a week so far. I've been studying my target. Today's the day I make my attempt to kill him. My target's a Jedi, and killing them is no easy task. I went after one before and lost my right arm.

I was contacted by a Sith Lord and he promised me a new ship if I killed this man:

I don't know his name or why someone wants him dead. But what do I care, I'm a Bounty Hunter.

Here's my target now.

He's been reporting on the Sith's plans every single day. This is where the information is being sent to the Republic. I guess this is the reason he's wanted dead.

Time to go.

Planting a bomb is my only chance to kill him.

I'll hide it in his speeder and detonate it from a distance.

Now I have to find a hiding spot.

Here they come now.

Almost there.

Jedi: Wait. Something's wrong.

Dangit!

Clone: Up there!

I've got to try.

(Insert Explosion Sound Effect Here)

I have to get out of here before I lose another arm.

Maybe this will stall him.

Jedi: Woah!

Where can I hide?

Hopefully he doesn't see me.

Yes! He must have lost his lightsaber in the mess!

Jedi: Why are you doing this?
Me: So I don't have to kill anymore.

I shouldn't have done this.

Commentary:
I'm kind of angry. I worked so hard on all these sets and the pictures I took don't really look like a gave an effort. Everyone of these pictures are clear on my computer, but for some reason became blurry when I uploaded them. The MOC consisted of 6 sets. All built, photographed, and taken down in the same day.
Well Chris, I made a Star Wars MOC without a lot of clones. Was this close to your idea? This idea is why I asked you if the MOC had to have clones in it.
For the interior, I went with the Alex Eylar approach. I think those pictures turned out the best.
I don't know if I want to ever do Star Wars again. It's just too hard too build with my limited amount of pieces.

Good Luck Stacy!

If you liked it, why don't you comment? I'd love to read what you have to say!

I never lived in Ireland. Irish is my last name. I made a typo before, I meant to say I live in Ohio.

"I have to go before I lose another arm!" lol thats funny Chas! Nice idea with the wands, it turned out good. P.S. Never worry about your picture quality-unless it looks like mine, then worry. P.S.S IMy pictures were so bad I'm not even using my camera anymore. 5/5

Chas: Nice work here, I think you may have done more than necessary though. I guess (and I just had a conversation about this) that I don't understand the driving need that so many people have to use MOCpages as a literary release ...and I am guilty of it myself. I guess I see all of this work that you did and then I remembered the category was clone wars ...not short story. You really went above and beyond here, and I like what you did (don't get me wrong), but a simpler diorama or vignette would have sufficed. Maybe I am venting a little because because I have seen other judges base an opinion more on a clever story line, than on the merits of the build itself, complexity, accuracy, scale and how well it fits into the category. This competition is based on LEGO modeling, not literary ability. Great work though, on all levels, I think that you may have very well sealed the deal into Round V with this. ~dave

Quoting Heath 'kik36' Flor WOW Congrats on the win! I really liked how you used the blue filter to simulate the hologram, and of course the wands for gun blasts were excellent! The grappling hook and the shooting of the net were clever as well. I look forward to seeing more of your builds!
Thanks! The blue filter is actually purist. I put a trans-blue window in front of the camera!

Chris wrote, "Create your own episode of the Clone Wars!" So I came up with a story. Even if I didn't need a story, it still helped me win!

Quoting Jonathan Ladner Awesome, i like this set thing better than your opponents, but i have a question, where did you get those wands?
You'll only be able to get them from Bricklink now. These came from the "Fright Knights" sets in the 90's. Here are some pictures: http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?itemType=S&catString=9.282

I actually like the ending the best; very well done. I gave my vote to Stacy on this one because of the quality of the build edged you out, and I was thinking along the same lines as Mr. Shaddix. Best of luck with the other judges

First off, great job! I think you had great detail and action for having a limited amount of bricks. The ending WAS anti-climactic but I agree with Dave: it's the build that should matter most. However, I feel that the talent level in this competition is so high that story line and humor can often times 'seal-the-deal' if you will. The build itself should be the biggest factor, but sometimes a little extra helps. Best of luck to you!

Great job Chas! You set a good tone with visuals, and they stayed consistent over the story. Dramatic lighting helped create moods. It's quite good.

Great work, Irish! While, I'll agree with others regarding the ending, I also have to say terrific job on the presentation. Stacy has ya beat ever so slightly on building technique, but your combination of build size, presentation, and story puts it over the top for me. Congrats, you've got my vote!

I know how hard it is to build a story with limited bricks but I think you did a great job here Chas. The beginning has some dark shots which build tension and towards the end you've really conveyed a sense of action. Nice work. PS: the pics look fine here :)

Quoting Dennis Price You had me until the very unsatisfying ending. Nice builds, good photos (smart to use the magic wand for laser blasts), but I feel your reader needs more than the main character's weak expression of regret at the end. That's just me though. Good luck!
I wanted to have a better ending too, but I was running out of build time and I had to come up with a story fast. Thanks for the comment!

To make the pictures look just as they do on your desktop... 1. In the picture code, change the SPLASH to DISPLAY. 2. delete the border="" width="" and height="" part and MOCpages will not change the size of the image for you.

Excellent job Chas. Considering the circumstances, this came out beautifully. I like your take on the Clone Wars: a smaller side story instead of a mainstream battle, like most people would've done. Great work, and let you creativity and resourcefulness show!

I love the tan building's roof line, with the round brown poles poking out. That's exactly the look I'll use if I ever make a scene from biblical Israel. Thanks for the inspiration.

nice build, some cool details! I don't really like your photoshopping though...sometimes it's better to drag a polygon line manually instead of using the magic wand...or whatever it was in your case ;)

While Stacy's single build was excellent, your combination of builds plus the story put it over the edge for me. I was a little disappointed with the ending though. Kinda left me wanting more. In any case, you get my vote! Good luck with the other judges! ~ Chris.

Well done Chas. The pics look just fine on my PC. Really like the interior lighting, and how the whole scene both interior and exterior all mesh together. Could use some star wars music. Anyways, 5 Stars. A more than worthy R4 Post.
