Articulated Robotic Tactical Combat System S16-KA Katana Series
Or ARTCS for short. A modular mecha that can quickly and easily exchange equipment and weapons. Operates via Nueral trace system, and can move almost in the full range that the pilot can. Has replaced the Calibre series as the ESC's main weapons platform.
About this creation
The Articulated Robotic Tactical Combat System is a robotic suit mecha used by the ESC Security Forces in place of conventional Heavy armor, treaded or hover. The Original ARTCS was a small exoskeleton-like mecha that had been designed for anti-personnel use, which tipped the balance on the battlefield. The S16-KA, known as the Katana series, is the latest finalized design to be released to the ESC Security Forces for their exclusive use. However there are two prototypes in the works, the S17-CA and the S18-SY.

The S16-KA has six major modular slots, two in the back, one on each shoulder, and each arm at the elbow joint. As standard equipment, a small minigun is mounted on the left side of the torso, and each elbow contains a full size Beam Sabre. Mounted in the pack, calves and feet are jumpjets, though not powerful enough for actually flight, when used at full power can provide about 30 feet of jump.

Tech files have been appended between configuration loadouts, explaining technologies incoporated into the design of the S16-KA.





This is the basic loadout for a soldier in the Katana Series. A battle rifle, which is something akin to a tank's cannon, a ballistics shield, the left shoulder cap, the right shoulder ballistics pauldron, and the dual Atmosphere Armor Projection systems.

Atmosphere Armor Projection System:
A system that uses small energy field generators to create hemisphrical fields of electricity, which arc through the air molecules, ionizing them into a solid shield. This system is highly effective against particle weapons, and each projector can project one hemispherical shield either foreward, backward, or to either side. There are several drawbacks to this system however. First, the ARTCS can not be mobile while the system is in operation. This is because the shield ionization locks it to the ground. And as it moves, the density of the ionized air increases, stressing the projector system and leading to an overload. Second, the armor system requires large amounts of power, drawing it from the other systems. Third, the shield is virtually useless against beam and energy weapons, as the energy easily passes through the shield wall. Forth, this system is complately useless in a vacuum, making its use in a space battle completely a waste. However, it has proven quite useful on reentry for spacecraft. The shield build up on its way in, providing a very effecient way to block away the heat, using the air itself as a heat shield, and it is far more effective than conventional heat shields. All landing craft are equipped with Atmosphere Armor systems for reentry.




This is the standard loadout for a Sniper. It consists of a Ballistics Shield on the right arm, the sniple rifle on the left, the right shoulder cap, the left Ballistics Pauldron with built-in sensor suite, and both Atmosphere Armor Projectors. Optional equipment includes further sensor suites and an Assault rifle in place of the shield on the right arm.

Crystallic Resonance PowerCell:
These power generators are created by passing electricity through an array of 2 or more naturally forming biochemical crystals found on the world Fothyr. As electricity is passed through the array, it causes the crystals to resonate with one another, generating even more power, essentially a perpetual power source. The minimum number of crystals in an array is 2, but for each crystal added, more than tenfold power is returned. The S16-KA is the first ARTCS to be designed initially to use the Crystallic Resonance PowerCell.
WARNING!!! The molecular structure of the biochemical crystals is very fragile, being easily damaged by either physical trauma, or power overload. If electricity is passing through the array when one of the crystals is damaged, or if too much power is fed into the array, it leads to a chain reaction the breaks down the crystals molecular structure, releasing tremendous amounts of energy. A 2 crystal array will create a blast radius of 5 meters, but a 10 crystal array will level a city and it's surrounding environment.




This model is designed for forest clearing and anti-personnel use. The right arm and back slots are taken by the Flamethrower and Fueltank, which was based on the WWII version. The left arm contains a very large armor cutting saw for breaching armor and for clearing trees. The left shoulder is occupied by anti-armor missiles, a rack of eight, whereas the right shoulder carries two large napalm warheads. The left back slot is taken by an atmosphere armor projector.

Sub-Penetrator Round:
Also referred to as SPR's, this kind of round is explosive that fires a smaller denser slug into the target at high speed on impact, then detonates, driving the penetrator deeper, doing more damage to armor and internal systems. A single SPR can detonate an entire explosive ballistics armor plate, and can easily prierce unlaminated armor plating. This type of round is highly dangerous and is authorized to be used only by ESC Security Forces.




This model's equipment package was put together by the pilot and is a custom operations package. It features the right shoulder pauldron, the left shoulder machinegun, both atmosphere armor projectors, the right arm assault rifle. On the left arm is a anti-mecha minigun which is currently in the battlefield testing stage, and feeds from a drum mounted on the side of it.

Laminate Armor:
A molecular layer that is applied to armor plating and to the surface of important internal systems, and "weaker" locations, such as joints. The Laminate armor is laid in a psuedo-crystalline lattice, similar to most types of paint, but is extremely strong, yet surprisingly brittle, like the shell of an egg. The lattice can take a single impact easily, distributing the force over the entire lattice, but multiple simulataneous impacts strain the lattice structure, causing it to degrade and crack. When this happens, the laminate armor begins to shed, revealing the armor plating beneath. However, laminate armor can be applied on the battlefield for quick repairs, though it is not generally as strong as the air tends to disrupt the lattice's structure as it hardens. Laminate armor is also a very strong bonding material, granted it has not been overstressed. The laminate itself is colored, so the paint job is applied by the laminate armor itself.







This Model's equipment package is extremely potent called the Artillery Package. The right arm and right back slots are filled with the large railgun and its ammo and power pack. Because the Railgun requires such an energy drain, the pack supplies power to gun via seperate crystal cell. It also contains the right shoulder pauldron and the left arm ballistics shield. The left shoulder contains a large six barreled Rotary Cannon, which rotates over the shoulder foreward to it's firing position. This weapon is used for close quarters defense, and has a high rate of fire. The left back slot is, of course, an Atmosphere Armor Projector.

Nueral Trace System:
Initially, the ARTCS were controlled by the motion trace system, which required the pilot to operate the mecha by moving within the cockpit. The mecha would interpret these movements and then would trace the momvements itself. The S16-KA is equipped with a Nueral Trace System that instead reads the pilot's nueral impulses and directly moves the mecha from that, elimanating the need for the pilot to move inside. On the lowest setting, the pilot can operate the ARTCS at the level of efficiency that the Motion Trace System was capable, performing most basic movements and postures. At this setting, if the ARTCS itself is damaged, the pilot feels no pain. On moderate levels, the pilot can perform more complicated manuevers and operations, such as using the jumpjets impulsively. At this setting, is the ARTCS is damaged, the pilot feels a stinging sensation in the corresponding location as well as impaired movement and lingering pain upon leaving the mecha for a few hours. On the highest level, the pilot is able to utilize the ATRCS to its full capabilities, performing complex manuevers such as martial arts. At this level, the pilot feels the full effect of any recieved damage, excluding the head section, which is maintained at a low moderate level at all times for the pilot's own safety. Most pilots operate on a moderate level, though the level is adjustable to suit the individual pilots.




This Model's package is called the Duelist. It features both right shoulder pauldron and the left arm ballistics shield. The right arm weapon is a large armor sword, which thanks to the nueral trace system, can be wielded very much like its much smaller predecessors. The left shoulder has the slot cap, and both back slots are Atmosphere Armor Projects.

Looks bulky, but thats the good thing. This seems to look like a very stable mecha! Good job, can't wait to see more!
