From LEGO Space Police: Log 04
About this creation
This is the Space Police briefing room, created for episode 4 of the LEGO Space Police series I worked on for LEGO.com. It was made as one of the interior rooms of the Space Police HQ.

With this MOC, I again wanted to incorporate elements of homage to the LEGO Space lines of old, and having the old Space Police I and II uniforms in glass cases on either side of the stage seemed like the perfect way to do this.

The droid minifig was also an obvious choice, with his head being taken from a Spyrius droid. He went through a couple of iterations -- we had to make sure he wasn't so cool that kids would clamor for him in a set!

Some eagle-eyed viewers have already noticed the BrickJournal Magazine over on the side table (the SPACE issue, natch).

As for the rest of the design, the goal was to match the design sensibilities of the exterior and make a room that looked like it would, in fact, exist inside the Space Police HQ. The Apple "1984" ad was a great source of inspiration in terms of design, since it was set in a similarly futuristic cyberpunk world. It's influence can be seen in both the floor plan of the auditorium as well as the big exhaust fans up on the walls.

The other reference I wanted to mention was the part where the cop comes in through the door at the end of the video. This was intended as a shout-out to the end scene of Robocop, another cyberpunk classic. Like many other filmmakers, I like to pay tribute to the works that inspired me, both as a kid playing with LEGO and now.

This room looked relly cool in the stop motion. All the detail, like the door and the stuff on the wall, make it better. Great job.

I have that Clear Helmet, I got it at a yard sale. I really like your dioramas for the series! My favorite one was probably the Diner one.

Quoting Commander Drake by the way where do you get the clear helmet?
It's a helmet that showed up mainly in Spyrius sets in the 1990's. I pulled it from set 6949 (http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=6949-1), but your best bet would probably be to check on Bricklink.
