Art Deco Skyscraper
A 17 story Art Deco office tower.
About this creation
This building was constructed in the Art Deco style as a part of a block of six structures that I first exhibited as part of the MichLTC portion of the giant Lego train layout at the NMRA 2005 National Train Show in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was not based on a specific prototype.

Dimensions:
Base: 40 x 28 studs.
Height: 4.5 feet.

Date Completed: April 26, 2005.
Current Status: Demolished (March 31, 2006).

The tower was designed to fit between my neoclassical bank building and the 19th century brick commercial building.

Most of the spandrels above each window are dark so as to emphasize the verticalness of the building.

Several setbacks characterize the typical art deco skyscraper

More detailed look at the top portion of the tower. The sand-green slopes do a fair imitation of a weathered copper roof.

Above the main entrance I tried to employ another Art Deco motif, the sunburst pattern or a variation thereof. It probably would of looked better with internal lighting.

Yeah I know what you mean, sometimes I just run out of creative energy to conjure up a good design, and sometimes I can't find the motivation or drive to start/finish it. But eventually it passes, and then something fulfilling and satisfying results.

Quoting Nick Ennobtown I just want to say, this building was my biggest influence and most direct inspiration for the tan skyscraper I recently added a few days ago. Even though the design is very different, looking at this skyscraper multiple times a day is what really motivated me to build mine. Plus after reading that line in your profile, "my first skyscrapers reeked of mediocrity", I really couldn't sit around and keep telling myself there was something cool about a giant tan rectangle :P. Anyways, still love this one, even if it was reduced to rubble. Also that's one thing I'd really LOVE to see from you more often, completely original designs. Don't get me wrong, I regard your Fischer Building as one of the top 5 greatest MOC's ever created, but making something that comes completely from your own imagination (with inspiration from existing buildings of course) is really the most satisfying. I'm always waiting for one of those annoying mocpage alerts to say "Jim Garret has added a new creation!" So until then, have a nice day!
Thank you for your generous comments! I am happy that this structure provided motivation to build your new skyscraper; just as in the past I had been influenced by earlier builders in some of my efforts. As to posting a new MOC, I unfortunately have a case of "builders block" at this time. I had started construction on a building called "The Penobscot Annex" but I cannot motivate myself to continue at this time - perhaps the state of the Michigan economy is getting me down. Perhaps next year I will tire of the constraints of building replicas and construct an original design.

Beautiful, as all your stuff is (or was, in this poor, demolished buildings case). Great work!

Wow! What a great skyscraper! I love the subtle colour usage to emphasise its scale and the copper roof with its typical green tinge, beautiful! It looks a beacon of awesomeness alongside others at that 2005 display! H§
