A skid-steered loader that lifts and tilts the bucket, all with three motors and from a single LEGO Mindstorms NXT 1.0 retail set!
About this creation
User techn0m0ves came up with the idea to build a small skid steered loader. See his model!
I hijacked his idea and came up with this, from a single Mindstorms NXT set (1.0 retail).
I started with testing the feasibility of skid steering at all with the NXT set. So i counted gears to see if i could get a solid drive train. The set has just sufficient gears to do it, luckily.
Below you see the lifting and tilting of the bucket with a single motor.
Holding stuff from the pollewop.nl here...
...and here after dumping it!
The lower bar works as your leg with a knee that is overstretched when lifting.
After lifting it all the way, the lower half of the leg is blocked and the knee suddenly bends, and the bucket tilts to let go of the load.
The model does not tip over easily, because the NXT brick is between the wheels and the mass center of the model is extremely low. Strangely, the NXT brick is only held in place by the ends of the four wheel axes entering its holes...
It can lift pretty high, either way this is as far i could get restricting myself to the set parts. Obviously the puppet is not from the set.
An instruction is to follow as usual, just like a vid. The video however will be a battle between my model and the model from techn0m0ves!
Liftboy: could you include some pictures (from the back maybe) so I can try to build it? Or...are any instructions (even basic) coming?
Thanks, this is a great bot! (although the driver is kind of aggressive!)
Hi NXT Liftboy, This is a fantastic piece of technology! I especialy like the lifting mechanism driven by a single motor. Unfortunatly your Skid Loader is not invincible as a noticed on You Tube ...
