My MOC version of the famous train.
About this creation
This is my MOC of the Polar Express, based off both the movie and the inspiration for the movie, the Pere Marquette Berkshire type 2-8-4 locomotive #1225.
The model itself is track ready, and takes corners very well. I plan on recreating characters from the film in minifig form, but that will come later.

Front of the locomotive. I'm especially proud of the cow catcher and the little technic bit I used for the headlight.

|
The rear of the locomotive with cab. The movie version of the Polar Express did not have the engine number under the cab window, but the real engine does.

The tender. Nothing special, except the tender houses the two 9v motors that pull this heavy train.

This is how the locomotive takes a turn. The front pair and rear two pairs of wheels are hinged independant of the driving wheels.

|
Notice how far the nose and cab of the locomotive hang off the rails.

But since toys are hard to make in minifig form, I went with the 'hot chocolate' scene, instead.

The porhole windows in the doors on each end of the car are from the Santa Fe Super Chief

Rows and rows of seats. I also put in the brass air grate where the little boy finds the little girl's ticket.

From this side, its identical to the other two cars.

I think I did reasonably well capturing a rounded look.

Showing the plush interior. It doesn't quite match the movie, but I thought green seats in a green car just was too much.

Lovely job Anthony, this is inspirational. Mind if I ask you what parts make up the technic headlight? |

Very nice MOC. I am currently making an atempt to create a micro polar express, but it's pretty tricky. And I would like to make it clear although it's already been said the train cars are green. |

This train is just awesome!
I should it to my youngest (4,5 years old) and he just loves it! He wants me to buy the set ;-)
He is so obsessed with the Polar Express!
Like Joyce I want to ask you if it would be possible to get the instructions for that or a plan for all the pieces you used!
That would be great!
His birthday is coming up and that's the only thing he wants! ...
I have to say it again: awesome, WE love it! |

Nice work! As I said over at Classic-Castle, this one is supurb. In many ways, I think this may be one of your best MOCs. The clean look, and level of detailing are simply phenomenal. Generally I'm not a big fan of LEGO trains, but for this one I'll make an exception. Later. |

I saw this on brickshelf a couple nights ago, and now I'm glad I finally get to have the honor of reviewing it on MOCpages! You obviously put in alot of time and thought into recreating the Polar Express, and I'm impressed by the amount of detail you put, not only on the outside, but inside the cars as well. I especially love how the last car is curved on its end. Keep up the great work! |
