Star Trek and LEGO® are the two material loves of my life. They might as
well merge!
I have a copy of the Original Star Trek Tech Manual. Two pictures in there
tickled my imagination. The first is the classic communicator (which I've only
had limited success creating as LEGO® ), and the other is the Type II Phaser
(which includes the Type I). Around the same time, I built my TNG Tricorder. I must also add that both v1.0 and v2.0 are near
exactly 1:1 scale the the diagram in the manual.
I made version 1.0 many years ago (1990?; Pre-DS9) and have since aquired enough pieces to
rebuild it not only a little better, but in more sleek and accurate colours.
Versions 1.0
& 1.1:
Version 2.0:
v1.1 and 2.0
This is the very first version I made and kept for all those years.
This is the what came of a windfall of used parts I acquired.
I wasn't overly fond of the v1.1 redesign of the Type I. The v2.0 Type I
satisfies!
The v1.0 has the studded edges in the Type I cavity. The v2.0 was
completely smooth
save for the 'clip' studs at the fore of the cavity to hold the Type I in
place.
I added the caps as a comfort grip.
...and more here.
Just another angle to appreciate.
The Type I Phasers. v2.0 has a functioning adjustment wheel.
Yet another version of the black Type I (without the setting adjuster)
