About this creation
Final Round! #7
Category: Cartoon Express
Opponent: Dave Sterling
Well, the Olympics are almost over. All that's left is the decision of our illustrious judges.
As Chris answered to my question earlier, you could use ANY cartoon from before 1995. So, as a result, I chose one of the most beloved cartoons ever, originally aired in the 1960's and has been re-run ever since!
Tom and Jerry!!
Because politically incorrect animal violence is entertaining!

Yes, I took some creative liberties with the Lego Interpretation, but that's normal in the limited scope of the Lego product.

Jerry! Watch out for the mousetrap which never caught him. This brings back memories of days after school, sitting back and watching the good ol' Cartoon Network. Nothing quite as relaxing as senseless violence!

Back...

Tom always was grabbign whatever implement was closest to him in an effort to get that pesky mouse. Knives, plates, vases, stools, brooms, guns, etc. Never seemed to work.

Tom's back... Ignore the "Mecha Joints", it makes Tom fully poseable, though!

And last but not least, Tom's eyebrows are fully poseable as well! So he can be scared, or angry, or anywhere in between!

And the picture I based it off of.
As always, sorry for the failful editing here and there, I don't have a good picture area...
Final Thoughts:
Thanks for everything everyone! All of my opponents, and all of the judges, and of course all of the players, who made this years Olympics awesome! Great job everyone! I'm so surprised I made it to the finals, and now, let the Judging ... Begin!!
And yes, I am indeed lacking of 2 yellow jumper plates for Toms eyes...

Well, MOTD is as good a reason as any to revisit this little gem. How the H-E-Double hockey sticks did this lose to Rainbow Freakin' Brite?! (Kidding Mr. Sterling) I said from the beginning that I did NOT envy the judges on this one! I still think they both were equally stunning in their own way. This and your mosaic were both jaw-dropping. Congrats once again on such a great run!~H |

this really brings back a lot of fond memories for me, as I too was one of those kids coming home from school and plopping down in front of the tube for a couple hours of mindless mayhem. Dave's idea was different and his build larger, but you've put a lot more detail into the models in my opinion, whilst Dave's models are accurate and simply great, I much prefer your models... The cat is marvelous and I think you deserved to win... I don't know the rainbow guys, but tom and jerry was what I always watched, so I think yours is more orignial. WHY DID YOU NOT WIN :( |

Hey Kevin! Wow...where do I even begin on this one? I guess I'll start by saying this MOC is fantastic. You really built a great entry and I knew that we were going to give the judges a coronary trying to vote this round. Your parts usage is awesome here and I agree with the others that the 'posability' is great. And while I'm not a fan of Tom & Jerry, I can totally appreciate the awesomeness of this MOC. You captured them perfectly. Great work and it was great competing with you. I look forward to seeing you at Brickworld 2010. |

Wow, Kevin you aren't making this easy! You did a beautiful job on the forms, and the posibility is a bonus. In the end, though, I decided to cast my vote for Dave. His choice of subject was just SO off the wall, and his execution of the characters was terrific. You're certainly giving him a run for his money, though. Despite my vote, I still have to say great work! |

Kevin... congrats on being a finalist here in the MOColympics! This is a really, really great MOC and choosing between this and Dave's Rainbow Bright creation is really hard! I love that Tom & Jerry are fully posable (eyebrows!)... and the little scene with the cheese is great. I can just see Jerry pushing a row of giant LEGO bowling balls onto Tom. :) But in the end, I'm going to have to cast my vote for Rainbow Bright... His construction is really solid, and I'm a sucker for those little techniques like the fender-piece shoulders and the shoulder-piece ribbon in her hair. His sprite characters are really dead-on, and overall the choice to make Rainbow Bright is not only creative and original, but also something that really makes a good-looking LEGO model. This was a really, really hard decision to make and I would have given both of you my vote, but Chris wouldn't have it. :) |

The mouse trap is PERFECT!!! I totally expect it to function it looks so real. You did an excellent job of recreating some of my favorite cartoon characters of all time.....animated cartoon violence FTW! Both you and Dave built such spectacular pieces that it's going to be a very close call! Luckily I don't have to make it LOL But that's why you two are at the top. Excellent job Kevin, good luck with the judges! |

Kevin: VERY clever parts usage here, I don't know where to start... Jerry's ears, the eyelashes, the little details are great. Tom & Jerry is one of my favorite shows, who doesn't love cartoon violence? I voted for Rainbow Brite, I just liked it better. ...the scale, the seeming randomness of subject, the disturbingly high level of detailed knowledge Dave has about a girl's toy/TV show. Good luck with the others Kevin. And seriously, magnificent work. |

Wow, I would hate to be a judge for this one! Those are amazing renditions of Tom and Jerry and some pretty innovative use of parts! This is not nearly as Freudian as Dave's build, but I'm not sure that will come into play...If nothing else, the extra scenery may give you this one. Regardless, you both blew the doors off this category! Congrats on this great run and good luck with the judges!~H |
