When you are searching for "Lamborghini" on MOCpages, it seems like the modern V-10 "Baby-Lambo" Gallardo & the mighty V-12 Murciélago both share the attention of the car builders around... but wait, what about the ancestor of the Murciélago? Signore e signori, come and face the devil:
About this creation
Lamborghini Diablo 6.0
The first Diablo was presented to the public in January 1990. The design of it's predecessor, the Countach, was almost 16 years old and thus no longer up to date. However, Lamborghini comissioned Marcello Gandini - the designer of the Countach and the Miura - to give the "Devil" a face: A wedge-shaped monster with spartan equipment and a 5.7-liter V-12 with 492 bhp.
In 1998, the German AUDI AG took over Lamborghini. While the Murciélago was developed to replace the aging Diablo once and for all, AUDI modernized the old car to draw it's last breath and to bridge the time until the brandnew successor was ready to roll.
Thus the "new" 2001 Diablo 6.0 VT became the first Lamborghini of the new millenium. Carbon-fiber was widely used on exterior and interior, making the car much lighter. The V-12's displacement was increased to 6 liters (hence the 6.0 addition in the name) and devloped 550 bhp. The interior was reworked considering comfort and luxury. On the exterior the most distinctive hint of the "6.0" is the centered two-pipe exhaust and the bigger front intakes. The "old-school" pop-up headlights were already replaced by exposed glass heasdlamps in the 1999 "VT"-variant. Design innovations were lead-managed by the Belgian designer Luc Donckerwolke, who is also responsible for the Murciélago's aggressive shape.
Instead of the cosmetic updates to an existing version, the "6.0" was the first and only massive redesign for the Diablo and more like a new car than just a simple update.
Together with a special edition available in either gold or bronze color, production of the "6.0"-series reached 304 units.
The model
To give it the striking shape of the Diablo, I decided to built the model 14-wide in the front and 16-wide in the rear. Only problem: when you use those wedges your model will have tiny gaps / holes all over...so I used some tape to get rid of this disturbing look. There is still 100% LEGO® under the tape. I hope you can pardon that.
Some exterior pics at first...
From above, you can see all the air outlets in the hood...
Hm, can see them even better in this one though. And as in the real car, you can look through the rear bumper.
OK, the window came to know the very sharp edge of a scalpel... I think all the intakes turned out really good.
More details. Here you can see how I taped the wedges.
The front...
...and the rear. I guess you can imagine how glad I am of how good the exhaust...
...turned out on this one *hehehe*
Openable bits and pieces...
You simply have to love those scissor doors...
As in most of my cars you can open the doors, the trunk and - certainly - the engine bay.
Interior
Still comes with manual gearbox...
The center console features an openable glove box...but the photos of it were to bad to post them.
Although I used a bit of tape again I think the seats look awesome.
Engine
Tidy as in the real car. Just the right amount of detailing.

Fantastic! I can't believe I haven't commented on this yet! the Diablo is tied with the Miura as my Favorite Lambo, and this has to be the best Lego model of it on the web! Though I'm curious whether you needed to put the windows there? if you cut up the top it seems like it wouldn't give much support, and i would have skipped the window if i had to cut a part to have it, anyway this is such an amazing model! the details are so darn accurate! I highly doubt it, but do you still have this amazing model? |

Beautiful job on one of my favourite cars! What tape did you use? hate those gaps too, the colour matches really well, but it didn't take me long to notice you had cheated (in a good way) to get the awesome likeness. Just created a Caterham would appreciate a comment/feedback. Keep up the good work. Tomaso |

Haha, that's a piece of art. I also like the sound of the real Diablo. You build this model to be shown in all views. It's a fair made Lego model and you were serious during building. I respect that very much. |

Awesome! I tried this car before I built the Gallardo, but the headlight kills me instantly[although it looks like an ordinary rectangular head lamp]. The 16 wide rear end is another awesome point TOO!! Wonderful creation from you man! Love it. Can't wait for your next creation. Uh... Wait a sec... Where is your Murcie? Well, with the Diablo, I don't care whether is there a Murcie anymore. ;) Cheers. -Kin |

WOW!!!! This is magnificent. You have done a wonderful job on this one. You really have over proved yourself with this one. All the details on this one are amazing, I saw it inmediatly that it was a Diablo 6.0. The shape = perfect, the details = perfect, the functions = perfect, the colour = perfect. This is one of your best so far. And the first to comment. Keep it up my buddies with building these great cars, as usual from you ;). |
