Subtitle: Ruining my daughter's chances at having a college fund.
For those of you that don’t know, the day after Thanksgiving, known as “Black Friday,” is the biggest shopping day of the year. EVERY store goes all out with the best deals that they can offer, and luckily, Lego is included in the sales. Let’s take a look at what I was able to scrape out of the madness that is, Black Friday…
First stop on the Black Friday battle ground was Toys R Us when they opened the doors at midnight last night. Number one, set 8635, Agent Mobile Command Center. Retail 89.99 scored for a mere 53.99!
On the left was my other score from Toys R Us. Set 7623, Crystal Temple Escape. Retail 59.99, mine for only 42.99. Not the BEST deal, but still nothing to sneeze at. On the right is set 7627, The Temple of the Crystal Skull. Retail 89.99, scored at Target this morning for 49.99! They also had the Troll battle Ship at that price, but I figured I’d been greedy enough and I still had the Lego store to hit later.
Some deals that were NOT from Black Friday, but within the week so I’m counting them. The Clone wars pirate tank (retail 39.99) was a birthday gift from my wife so FREE! I didn’t have the heart to tell her I already had the set still unopened. Darth Vader’s Tie Fighter retails for 29.99. It was on sale for 20 bucks plus I had a $5 off coupon so, SCORE $15!
Another “Non-Black Friday” deal. Picked this up last week as a birthday present to myself. Set number 7897 Passenger Train. Retail 99.99. Damaged boxed item and MINE for 63 bucks! Happy Birthday to me! Oh, can somebody PLEASE tell me, at which point did I become a towney/Train guy?
Back to the Black Friday Attack!
Then it was time to hit the LEGO store at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg (That would be in Illinois). I had the pleasure of meeting up with MOCpages own Dave Kaleta and the two of us tore into this place like starving men with a package of crackers… OK, not quite, but it was fun! The Lego store didn’t have the best deals, but they gave you the chance to hit lotto on this. With every purchase, you were given a “scratch card” that had either 10, 20 or 50% off your entire purchase. Of course MOST of the cards were 10% which is what both Dave and I ended up with. Better than nothing!
The funniest part of this trip, aside from the geeks in the picture here, is that Dave and I walked out of the store with the EXACT same sets and two PAB cups. Oh, and whatever he tells you happened after we left the store is a TOTAL lie.
Here’s what was scored at the Lego store. Not a whole lot as our scratch cards were only worth 10% off our total purchase. Here we go. Set 8060 Typhoon Turbo Sub. Retail, 24.99 plus set 5982 Space Police, retail 19.99 plus two PAB cubs at 14.49 each, minus 10% is 73 bucks! The thing with the logo on it is for a FREE PAB (a $15 value) cup after Christmas!
So here it is in all its glory! The entire take, the whole enchilada, the big score, the… ummm… yeah, all of it. Anyone want to help me sort?
Fourth Wall Commentary: Ok, let’s do the math quickly here shall we. Total retail value of the entire haul was $498.89 (that’s including the free PAB cup that I’ll get after Christmas). My total cost was $310.97! That’s a total savings of $187.92! See kids, it pays to look for the deals! That’s nearly 200 bucks that can now go for more LEGO!
But I think the coolest thing was getting to meet up with Dave Kaleta. That’s one cool dude. If you ever get the chance to hang with him at say Brickworld or something, do it. Other than that folks, I think I’m DONE buying brick for at least a month… maybe two. Heck, it’s going to take at LEAST that long to sort all this stuff… speaking of which, time to get to it!
Till next time true believers! And if you haven’t gone shopping yet GO NOW!

Yeap. I live somewhere in the North Western suburbs. Since you live in the area, hope to see you at BrickWorld in June! And can someone tell me how this piece of (bleep) got MOTD?!!?
@Chris: Loool, and now it happened the second time XD Greetings, Sven
Black Friday scares me to death, but after looking at your haul, I'm incredibly tempted to try it out. As a side note, the face of the kid in the main pic is golden; it looks like his brain just when "foom" after looking at all those sweet sets!
hey that lego store looks like the new one in arundal mills, am i correct? i was gonna go to it with my friend but the line was too dang long. then we were gonna help build the big tree but nooo, the line for that had to be two miles long as well!! i ended up buying a halo action figure and an rc helecopter.
Heh, price for all those Legos would be in Croatia about 5000kn (700Euro) which is an average payment for one month here.

not bad, i went toys r us and scored big. i got two atlantis sets, two space police sets and a discount set. i also had a gift card for 20 dollars, so that was a great day for me. it looks like you got a better haul than i did.
Oh man, I notice some of the other European AFOLs below have the same gripe as me - Your Lego is cheaper than ours is anyway, then you have an enormo-sale on top! My jealousy knows no bounds. Getting a Euro-exclusive Pirates advent calender (which have probably turned up in the US by now anyway) does not make up for paying in £ what you guys pay in $. Roll on christmas, then the infamous January sales (which often start December 26th?) for some bargains hopefully, followed by my birthday on January 3rd (all donations and gifts welcome).
Nice haul. Don't worry about your daughter's college fund, by then, you'll have enough bricks to build her a university.

I was plain lucky once, I found a lego set sitting infront of someones Car, It's mine now =), Sameway I was unlucky, I Was at TOYS'R'US And there was one clone turbo tank left, (I know abit bout' starwars) I went to get my mom at the bratz Ile with my sister When she came it was gone stupid Lego fan, Y'know It might of been Luke-Watkins...Grrrrr.....
I wish i could have scored so much on legos, my birthday is in early november, so it has the perfect waiting period so people treat it as to separate occasions! but i got a 300$ gift with 25$ of exsesories so my parents made it clear i wasn't getting much for x mas... Still my brother loves legos and i just use his so its like 500$ of stuff for me!
"Dad. Why can't I go to college?" "Well.. erm... you see there was this lego marketing sale..."

I know why you got the train. Because it is an RC! Everyone loves RC's and to find one that cheap is a 1 in an 500,000 shot! You are lucky Chris. I wish I had that much LEGO as you, and if I meet you someday (if I ever go to California), I want to build somthing with you. I have LOTS OF THINGS IN MIND and would like to do it because you will be impressed. The LEGO store close enough to me is in Blacksburg VA. The last lime I've been into one is at Disney, in 2000. So I'll keep building and try to make somthing with ALL OF MY LEGOS! Well... the "free pieces" anyways.~M.K.M.

Sorry if I got the place wrong, but I knew it started with a C! Yeah, I live in West Virginia. There's NOTHING LEGO HERE! I mean events. By the way, I'm 20 years younger than you, but I can build like a pro. If you look at my stuff, you may think I'm not a good builder, BUT I AM! I just don't have enough pieces to do the right build. So I have to do small things. I have a pic. of my collection, but it is unorginized to the max! My room is too small to have it orginized and my parents think that I am too old to have LEGOs. I am creative and I NEED them. It keeps me somthing to do. Anyways Chris, you are a good, twice as old as I am, friend. I also have a 10 year old LEGO book and it looks new!?!? It is still in a good shape. I'll put a pic of it on here, because it tells the beginning of LEGO and has very good creations in it. Please comment on all of my things. I love feedback.~M.K.M.
Guess what? I went to the south shore plaza Lego store and ..... BOUGHT CRAWLER CRANE, ..... SNOW GROOMER,..... SECURITY SMASH, ..... AND FIRE BLASTER .... ALL FOR WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE $150 ... BUT GOT 50% OFF AND WAS $61.99!!!!! AND THE CLERK TIM?GAVE A PICK A BRICK BOX anyway !!!!! AND DAD BOUGHT ME THE LAST MINDSSTORMS NXT 2.0 AND GOT 3 PICK A BRICK BOXES AND 20% OFF!!!!! AHHH! NEW LEGOS!AM I LUCKY OR WHAT? WILL BE POSTING THEM SOON!!!!!
My black Friday story has some similarity to yours in terms of sets purchased at TRU, Target, etc with one GLARING exception... I could not go to a LEGO store. There is no LEGO store in Michigan. In fact, Michigan is the most populous state in the USA that does not have a LEGO store.
(wierd laugh)--- I begged my mom to take me to the campsite, also known a Target at 5 in the morning to go roast marshmallows. I really wanted great deals on LEGO at 5 in the morning but I figured out I was out of $$$. Anyway good luck opening those... I could take a few to make it easy on you?
Of course, I'm too lazy to get up for the fortune saving door busters. But whoa! 200$ in savings?!? I was lucky enough to even FIND the the stuff I wanted. Right now I'm seeing what I can save on uhhh... Gray saturday... Anyway, hope you can get the money back for your daughter's future lol.

and if I meet you someday (if I ever go to California), I want to build somthing with you.
Yeah, I'd be up for that... but, ummm, I live in Chicago. Brickworld (Held in Chicago every June) might be your best bet at meeting not only myself, but just about all the other AFOLs from around here.
Ha ha, I wasn't $tupid enough to go, besides, I have $140 saved for a 26 gig nano.
@ Mr. Bones: Yah, My cat got into my room at night, and found a ton of lego on the floor, And decided it looked more comfy to go #3 in than his Box. And he sleeps on my Black Shirts. He's White Fured. I think he eats them too, and Plays with them while I'm asleep. Darn Jack, or 'Mr. Jangles' as My sister calls him.
You're LUCKY mate :-) Here in Europe, Lego are more expensive than in the US, and it's hard to find good prices. It's even hard to find PowerMiners, at least where I live. Oooh anyway... there's still Cracklink lol It's good to have a pile of unopened sets, isn't ? ;-)
Holy god. I sure wish they'd open up a store here (yeah, I'm picky - there's one a few miles across the border). Well, it looks like you sure scored some great stuff! Although I don't know about the passenger train, there aren't many pieces, not many good pieces, and the tracks aren't as good as 9V (in my opinion). 300 bucks spent, eh? You really must get well-paid if it's only gonna take you two months for more LEGO purchases.
Wow, a Lego store... I am in awe. We don't have anything like that in New Zealand... just a couple of mall shops with a small rack of Lego sets in a dusty corner of the toy section. I have to buy my sets second hand off the internet... with teeth marks and pealed stickers and pieces lost up the vacuum cleaner...
Rub it in...
I didn't do to badly though, yesterday got a pirate's set 6239 for just under $9, and the impulse set for $2!! The deal was but one toy, get the second at %50 off. and because mum paid for it, when I went to pay her back, she said just $10. Score!

Nice Report of your Black Friday Finds. It was nice to meet you earlier today at the Lego Store!
Nice load! Wait, that came out all wrong, do over! Nice Lego Black Friday Haul! Yeah, that's better. I really wish we had a %&%^&% Lego store here, ours closed 2 years ago. Sigh, oh well, I will be in AZ in 2 weeks, and they have one there! (Oh Chris, don't let any animals help you sort, pet hair, chewed pieces, the fact that Legos sound a lot like a litter box, so yeah, no pets.)
Great haul. You were more ambitious than me goin' out at midnight. I did go out to the Lego store at the Mall of America at 6am. I took the lightrail in case the traffic was heavy, it wasn't, but I got to ride the train for the first time. I was disappointed in the lack of sale sets at LEGO store. I only got 10% on my coupon. I only blew 75 bucks on same Atlantis set, the Crystal Skull plane set, and the small Space police with the green headed alien. Hope you guys used your VIP cards too. Black Friday should be called Happy Nerdsday. see ya. garth
I woke up at 4:00 am this morning with three goals: 1- get into a mob scene, 2- Get trampled trying to get into the store, and 3- check out the 'buy two get one free' deal at my local K-mart. unfortunately goals 1&2 didnt happen. but i did make off with three $30 lego sets!
Wow, looks like you got some good deals. The way that I find to get the best deals (Although this is not very often) is to go to good will or other thrift stores. Accasionaly I will find lego sets there, and it's a thrift store so the prices are really low, but you have to make sure the box is unopend. I have gotten several small lego sets that would normaly be 10$ for only a dollar. But the best deals I ever got was the Anakin's y-wing retail 60$ for only 15$! And the vetnator retail 120$ for only 15$! Best deail ever, but pretty rare. Happy belated thanksgiving! ~ J
Mad, man! You madman. Doesn't make too much sense... Anyway. I'm going up to the LEGO store for mah first time, (At LEAST 1 PAB cup will be purchased- probably two,) but I live far from it. Either tomorrow or Tuesday. I can't wait! On tuesday you get to make a free craft that has 20 pieces and you take it home, so I'll probably go then. Anyway, enough about me. Awesome loot, I worship you now (as if I didn't before).
DAYUM! And LEGO is way cheaper over at your side of the pond as it is! I'm guessing you could buy a small car for the equivalent of all that lego over here ;-). Anyway, a good score, and happy building!
