AH-72 Diamondback
My first helicopter creation, a heavy attack helicopter. "Strike like a helicopter, named like a snake."
About this creation
AIS AH-72 Diamondback

Info: The Diamondback is a highly advanced attack helicopter used by the AIS (Alliance of Independent States), developed in late 2035 for infantry support in the ever-evolving high-tech battlefield. The AH-72 is capable of carrying a multitude of different weapons, including, guns, anti-tank or anti-personnell missiles, cannon, bombs, rocket pods, even chemical/biological weapons. The AH-72 is also a rather speedy helicopter, with the ability to fly at speeds of up to 240 MPH. The powerful engine can also lift the copter up to heights of 25,000 feet. The AH-72 is flown by two pilots. Its efficient engine gives it a huge combat radius of up to 200 miles, even with a heavy load of weaponry. It truly is the ultimate battlefield helicopter.

Overall views:

The ever-present three-quarter view.

Right side view.

Front view. How'd you like to see this thing coming at you? The pole is a target designator; the black thing underneath is a 30 mm cannon.

Left side view.

Detail Shots:

The dual cockpits. The front one is the gunner's seat, the rear one is the pilot's. Sadly, they do not open, I put looks ahead of functionality. You can see the engines in this one.

Engine shot. That black thing there is the flare launcher, used in either hairy situations, or to ward off enemy heat-seeking missiles.

Shot of the rear of the fuselage, along with the electronics cable leading to the tailfin.

The tailfin. Rather simple.

Right wing stub, with various weaponry situated about it. More on those later.

Left wing stub. Ditto with the right one.

Those landing slat things, whatever you call 'em.

A rather blurry shot of the front cockpit.

A rather bright shot of the rear cockpit.

And finally, the shot showing the crew as well as the various weaponries of the craft. As promised, here's what the weapons are exactly.
From left to right, two Air-to-Air missiles, two anti-tank/bunker buster missiles, Hydra anti-infantry rocket pod, (in front of the rocket pod) the 30 mm cannon again, minus the ammo feed, some sort of cool heavy missile, a grenade launcher, and a 20 mm minigun. All of these weapons were taken off of the heli.

Welp, there you go, there's my first helicopter and first AIS creation. (For those of you who are unaware, the AIS is my faction in the RA-CAS-UEN future war. I hope you enjoyed it! (Hopefully) Coming up next is my reasonlessly delayed EOD 13.

Super Diamondback! I especially like the way you applied the legs as the mechanic components at the root of the machinegun barrels. This scale model even looks more huge because you took the pictures from below...you made some close-ups...etc. I like that!

I believe some praise is in order here! Very nicely done. I really like the detail and overall feel of this meanie. Groovy.

Nice, I like all of the detail in this. But it is a little messy. Besides that it looks good. Merry Christmocs! ~ J

I like the way you've added the Swash Plate. That's a nice touch. The chain and the "electronics cable" both need to go... it's a bad idea to have anything loose flapping about. These pics are why I made the suggestion about the flare launcher... http://www.myconfinedspace.com/2007/09/18/helicopter-flares/ http://www.acig.org/artman/uploads/vvipvo_mi-24_vam-205_firing.jpg ... you want decoys moving away from the target you're defending, at an angle to draw off whatever is tracking you. It's just some constructive criticism, I'm not trying to be mean :)

My comment didn't post, frakking censors. Well, it's a good start, but I don't like the chains, and what appear to be wedge plates on the landing skids don't work for me either. It can definitely go somewhere though.

Quoting Rob Smiley Uhh... flare launcher right where it'll fire into the rotors? Move it down onto the tail boom, pointing down or fit a pair firing one to each side
I actually angled the flare launcher just perfectly that it wouldn't fire into the rotors. And I find it suprising that out of all of the good things of this craft you pick one little bad thing, and don't even point out what you like about it. Plus, this is my first attempt at building something even remotely close to a helicopter.

I'm assuming by the name, and the overall look you were heavily influenced by the AH-1W Super Cobra? You did an excellent job adding your own touches to the design, and I like the details you added. Great job!

Okay, sorry for any confusion, I'm just used to hearing measurements in meters so it sounded exaggerated to me.

Quoting Juan C. I like it, however I'm not too fond of the stubby front. I like the dual canopies, and the rotors, I think you might have exaggerated the measurements a bit, then again I know little to nothing about feet (as a measurement) so I may be wrong.
I made it to one foot to one stud ratio. Approximately three and a half feet are one meter, so this is wherabouts of 17 meters long.
