Pump Jack
About this creation

I scaled up this blueprint and modelled the main components from it.

This hut has a modelled interior - work bench with electrical testing/monitoring equipment, radio, coffee, pop, documents and an office chair. There is a working light inside the hut and a working spotlight on the outside. The on/off switch is hidden beneath a section of removable tan plates on the "ground".

This model won first place in its category at the local Silver Springs LEGO Competition.

Modelled after some local pump jacks in Alberta, Canada.

Quoting TNT Engineering I am in Calgary Alberta. What price in Canadian are you looking for?
Well, that would save the shipping fee because I could deliver it. And that would also give me the opportunity to re-assemble it for you. The price would be CAN$600. Please let me know if you are still interested.

The pump jack is still available for sale, but in a slightly modified version to what you see here the fence has been removed and the switch is strengthened and a few other cosmetic changes. I'd accept US$600 + shipping and handling charges (at cost) for this as it is. Thanks for asking!

Quoting Justin Groh That's incredible man! I don't suppose you're interested in sell that are you?
Hey Justin! Sorry for the late. I can't sell it becaue it is in large chunks/pieces and I don't have the time to reassemble. Plus, packing it would be a pain... But IF it had been available for sale, I suppose $800 would have seemed reasonable (to me).

Excellent work! I tried to make my pics look alot better by whiting out the background on my new model! It really does enhance the display.

Quoting Space Pirate I really don't know what to say. Everything looks perfect. Probably I like your baseplate idea best. You created a nice contrast with those rocks beneath the tan.
Thanks SpacePirate. I was originally going to do more with the base - show rock strata and embedded boulders etc., but ended up sticking with the first version I came up with (using available bricks) and decided to spend more time concentrating on the pump jack itself. In the end the 6-brick high base was just to show the pump rod going into the ground.

Great design on the Pump Jack I've often thought these would these would make a nice Lego model and you've proven me correct. The entire surroundings are well detailed and sell the ambiance of this type of environment. And, like many of the others here would love to see detailed pics of your pump jack and diorama.

Wow! Thanks for all the nice comments folks. I really appreciate it! Since TBB linked to this page I've seen the number of views increase exponentially - more power to them! As for the photographs, I'll get some more pictures up very soon - I'll try to get some better resolution and more close-ups too.

Quoting johan piera Excellent work! You have inspired me to start uploading my own creations. I was just wondering how you get such nice photos with a white background. I have such a hard time taking nice photos with appropriate lighting. With the background all white its easier to focus in and see the details in your creation and it looks much more enhanced.
Me too! I take crappy photographs, then edit the heck out of 'em! The white background is achieved by deleting the original background from the photograph. If I was better organized I would photographs against a plain backdrop then delete that out, but these last photographs were taken on a highly patterned Xmas tablecloth! (What a nightmare!)

Quoting exile 31 This is a real 'Work of Art'!! It's not just the superb detail - you've also managed to actually capture the atmosphere of the operation. If Lego were selling this as a set it would be at the very top of my wish-list!!
Thanks exile 31 - if TLG made this as a set, I'd buy one too!! I'm glad you like it. I only wish I had had the gumption to motorize it (I did attempt to work something out, but ended up just trying to replicate the detail as my primary objective, and thought I'd go back later and add motors, and have made that pretty hard to do as it is built right now). There's always an opportunity to make a better model out there.

That is one amazing MOC! You have captured one of these things so well. This is very creative. I love how you shaped the base like a cross to keep the ground modelled to a minimum. I saw small versions of these that dot the landscape in parts of Los Angeles. Great work. Regards, Eric.
