"Back then the unit was only a few years old…it was Truman’s idea to make the codename “Agents”, gave it a degree of ambiguity. Make anyone investigating us think it we were with the IRS or the Secret Service. [Laughs] This was our first big operation, all cloak-and-dagger of course. The Americans fruit companies weren’t happy with the current El Presidente of the Republic of Hidalgo, he’d practically declared war on them and the Republic used to be a big supplier. So it was simple, we would “take care of” the current president, install this strongman we literally pulled off a coffee plantation, what was his name, Colonel Tito Mora, who would do whatever the fruit companies would like. Worked perfectly, and the best part was no one suspected us. That proved to the people at the top we could do our job a lot better than they previously thought. And it secured us our funding."
The first of my Agents 1953 series.
