The ST-230 Star Runner; a small multi-purpose ship in the Black Sun Empire
About this creation
I'm back from the dead ! (well, back home fore the holidays anyway) which means back to lego for a week or two, amongst other things :)
This is the first spaceship made for the Black Sun Empire; which was roughly based on a model made by my little brother a while back (you can see the similarity: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/99413).
The ST-230 Star Runner is a very versatile, well-balanced ship; with a range of uses - though specialised in neither - making it a sought-after choice for mercenaries and smugglers (though, being built only for, and by, the Black Sun Empire, the chances of anybody else getting one are fairly low; and when one is salvaged/stolen, prices are usually quite steep for a craft of its class).
The Star Runner's popularity comes from the fact that it is fast, being propelled by three large thrusters; fairly agile (though not so much as specialised snub-fighters such as TIE fighters), is equipped as standard with four turbolasers (two on the very front, and two side-mounted), two ion cannons (the small cones on the bottom of either side of... whatever you call "the bit where the nose joins the main body") and dual proton torpedo/concussion missile launchers; has a small cargo bay, and good shields are standard. Basic cloaking systems were even introduced in some later models, though as an option seeing the expensive costs involved. (the Black Sun Empire strives for quality and superiority over its foes - their budget isn't compromised on ships and vehicles).
The craft has a relatively flat hull, and is no taller than it needs to be to accommodate its crew; but this is to maximise inside flooring space - though the cargo bay doesn't compare to any fully-grown freighter; for such a small, fast craft, a fair amount can be squeezed in.
Again; though this craft isn't big enough to be used as a freighter; or heavily armed enough to be a commonly used fighter ship; its versatility and 'in-between' character make it a good compromise for many missions.
A standard crew would be composed of four people - a pilot, gunner, and two navigators; though it could be run with just the pilot and one navigator.
Check out the other Black Sun Empire models if you like this one :)
I've also made a bit of a specialist group here on MOCpages for the Black Sun Empire - http://www.mocpages.com/group.php/5853 - feel free to join if you'd like to make some creations of your own for the BSE; or add any "dark sci-fi" models you might have :)
P.S. If you are looking to buy lego for your creations, I would like to recommend the following Bricklink lego shop ; "About Town, Castle & Train" ( http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=stacey_love )
I personally know the shopholders, and they are very nice, devoted people. They are currently sponsoring 100% of my 1/3 Lamborghini project, providing all of the parts; and have made various other donations to other models I have made.
The store has a wide selection of parts (over 600,000!), at good prices, and offer an exceptional, fast service (no tax or dodgy exchange rates, next day postage, etc). you won't be disappointed !
P.P.S. I'm not getting anything out of 'advertising' for them; they're genuinely a good lego shop who'll really do their best for you :)
