About this creation
Paying tribute to the brilliant R&B and Pop singer Sade, here is a LEGO mosaic of the picture on her greatest hits CD. The mosaic uses 9 of the large gray baseplates (48 x 48 studs) and measures 45 x 45 inches (3.75 x 3.75 feet). Just under 13,000 LEGO pieces, this is a rather large project. As an added feature, on the bottom left corner, there is a LEGO frame encasing her greatest hits CD.

The completed mosaic on the floor, showing all nine panels. I used only 1x1 and 1x2 bricks on all nine panels. The bricks are ranged only horizontally, creating an interesting visual effect. I opted for a direct color match rather than a dithered approach. As a result, the mosaic uses just 5 colors, Black, White, Gray, Dark Gray, and Tan.

Here is the mosaic partially installed on the wall. Technic parts were used for the hanging assembly. To brace the 9 plates together and to try to hide the seems, I used some larger 2x4 bricks. The horizontal only brick arrangement is a unique way to create mosaics, but it creates a problem when installing. The gray plates tend to curl on the ends as the 1x2 bricks pull it towards the center. Hiding the seems became challenging.

Her original greatest hits CD is encased in a LEGO frame on the bottom left. Now if I could just get ahold of an autographed one...

Difficult to see, but a LEGO signature is located on the bottom right. The signature uses 1x1 plates.

The completed and installed Sade mosaic. There is a black frame around the whole piece, which uses 45 degree black slope pieces and finishing tiles.
