A fully functional, complete model of the G36 family - features 3 fore-grips, 2 handles, and a load of accessories
About this creation
And here's another gun - a bit earlier than I expected! I meant to upload it on the weekend, but school was snowed out today (we British have a knack for falling apart at the slightest hint of bad weather), so I came home early.
Anyway, here it is - the fully customisable, complete* G36 family!
*I'm afraid there's no C mag for the MG36, there's no bi-pod, and I didn't build the sniper stock. But everything else is here!
Here's the VIDEO
This gun features:
-working mech - I re-did it, and its now VERY powerful, and far more efficient
-2x removable box magazine. Holds 12 bricks, and can be clipped together
-automatically re-aligning cocking handle (the first, I think, on MOCpages! (please tell me if is isn't!))
-folding and locking stock. Needs to have a catch depressed to fold it, and is held by friction when folded
-removable functional Picatinny rail with built-in iron sights
-removable carrying handle with an integrated optical sight (the sight is just a hole, actually)
-removable 'C' type fore-grip with functional Picatinny rail
-removable fore-grip insert to make the 'C' grip to a 'K' grip
-removable full size fore-grip
-two removable barrels, one for the K, and one for the full size grips
-removable reflex and ACOG(ish) scopes (can only be attached to the top Picatinny rail)
-removable flashlight (can only be attached to K or C grips)
If I think of anything else, I'll mention it later.
Converting parts of the gun is completely tool-less, you don't even need a pin (usually), but sometimes ALL the pins in the grips get stuck, so there is a detachable pin-remover disguised as the strap loop in the stock. Otherwise, you can just use a pin that's already fallen out to remove the others when changing fore-grips.
both handles can be used to carry the gun with, as they are both vertically strengthened and are, in a way, locked in to the bottom beam on the receiver when attached.
Fore-grips are attached to the end of the receiver by two friction pins, and also to the barrel by two (or three) axles running through the grip, the barrel, and then the grip again. They don't fall out because of the plates in the way
The barrels attach in a very easy way - they slide in perpendicular to the gun, and then the grip slots over the end. This means that the barrel cant move in any direction then the grip has been locked into place
Pics
The gun. Here its got a K grip, the Picatinny rail, the flashlight and the reflex. This is my favourite combination
The normal G36C - one of the most popular guns with film directors for its looks and the fact that pretty much any accessory can be shoved on it at a moments notice. Left side
The C again - right side
Stock folded. Right side
And again - left side
No mag
As with my G36K (previous model), the removal of one pin means the stock can be pulled clean off
The stock
What's left at the back of the gun
G36K with Picatinny, reflex, torch, and no stock
No handle or fore-grip - this is the basic model, from which all the different models are built - but it still works if you want it too!
The handle part of the cocking handle. Uses a modified piece (more on that later)
Handle pushed to the side. It will spring back when released
A random kind of shot - shows the whole handle
Handle cocked
Swivelled to the right
And to the left. This is as far as it can be rotated.
Pistol grip and mag. I was determined to do a better job of the mag than last time, as on my old G36K the mag made it look a bit odd. I think I did a better job this time - it's actually just a slightly modified version of my STANAG mag!
The stock release lever
Press it in...
And you can fold the stock
The whole stock release mech
The multi-stud block is what locks the stock closed. As there are no actual pins, you can fold the stock secure in the knowledge that nothings going to fall off
The hinge. A bit ugly, but it does allow the stock to be removed quickly without hassle, which good
The end of the barrel. This is C barrel - no extra barrels have been added.
That pin sticking out of the frame is one of the things that locks the grips into place
The C fore-grip. Those grey 5M pins are stored on the holes in the grip. They don't fall out when the plates are on the side, as the plates block them
The grip attached, with the pins locking the grip in place - one high up, one low down
And then with the plates on, the grip is attached.
To make the K grip, you also need the insert.
Attach both grips together
Then slide the barrel extension in the back.
The barrel basically slides sideways over the end of the shorter barrel, and this restricts forward and backward motion...
Meaning the grips can be slid the rest of the way over the barrel, to clip onto the pins in the receiver frame. Slide the pins in...
Add the plates, and its attached! For a reverence point, the notch in the frame on the top left side of the pic is the end of the cocking handle (I haven't attached any carry handles)
The full size barrel is basically the same thing:
Slide the barrel in the grip, then slip the end over the shorter barrel...
Then slide the grip the rest of the way and add the pins
Then add the plates, and that's all the different grips! Now its time for the carry handles...
The Picatinny and the integrated optics handles both lock in place using the same four beams, in exactly the same places
The pins go here. The other two go on the other side. It may not look it, but the 6M beam at the back IS secured to the beam at the bottom of the gun, above the grip, so shaking the gun about by the handle will not break anything, and the handle will not come off
And the integrated optics sight locks in the same way
With the integrated optics sight attached, these are the various combinations: C, K and E
And its pretty much the same idea with the Picatinny rail:

And here are some pics of the K and E variants with my ACOG that looks nothing like and ACOG

The three accessories: the ACOG, the Eotech reflex, and the torch
The ACOG
The Eotech reflex (basically the same as I had on my 416)
And the torch. Sadly, it doesn't light up like my PEQ-2, but I had literally run out of black pieces when I finished it (it was the last thing I built)
FPS - G36K, integrated optics
Another FPS - G36C, Picatinny rail, with Eotech and torch
Sight picture: Eotech reflex
ACOG
Integrated optics carry handle
Iron sights in the Picatinny
Fore-sight. Made of two tyres
Rear sight
The two 12-brick mags. Basically, they're a slight mod of my STANAG mag
Sadly, they don't just clip together - you need to add two more pieces - shown here
When those are in, plonk the other mag on top, and you have a double mag! Remember: folding the stock is not possible with an extra mag protruding on the right hand side of the gun
The feed system
The whole set - this is everything I made. Don't ask me to list everything in it ;)
Field strip
Mech
The cocking handle detached. You can see how the handle re-aligns itself - the RB is attached to it. It's designed in such a way that if it is pulled upwards when built into the gun, it will be the guns frame that breaks first
A close-up of the re-aligning mech
This is the one modified piece in the gun. I had to file the stud off so that I could attach it to the beam on the front of the handle, as otherwise the beam would have tried to insert itself into a + hole instead of a o hole.
Another pic. Yes, I know the workmanship isn't great, but it was done with a very thick file in bad lighting - I kind of acted on impulse without thinking of the best way of doing it XD
The hammer and cocking handle in the mech
Cocking handle cocked
Handle forward, hammer locked behind the trigger
Pulling the trigger moves the grey beams down, releasing the hammer
The new improved hammer - basically its smaller and lighter, so more of the energy from the RBs is transferred to the brick instead of the hammer
Another pic

That's it - tell me what you think!

the one on the very end? this stops the brick from flying up into the roof of the barrel. when i first made the mech with my very first G36K, it kept failing to shoot because the brick was getting caught between the hammer and where the roof of the barrel starts. basically it acts as a moving roof that means there is always something above the brick |
