About this creation
Here's some music you might want to play before we begin.
Who would bother to bury an artifact six stories beneath the Tyrchenian Sea floor Corporal Higgins wondered as they entered the antichamer. Descending six stories hadn't been easy on him. Strangley though Dr Jones seemed accustomed to it.
Somethings not right here Indy exclaimed as they entered the chamber that housed the fabled Trident of Neptune. Two skeletons in conquistador helmets were sprawled out across the floor. "There's no record of the Conquistadors ever coming to Rome in Search of gold."
"How did they die?" Higgins asked. "Either they killed eachother fighting for the right to own the trident or someone or "something" else got them." Indy said. Even after ten years of military training Corporal Higgins didn't like the idea of something supernatural stalking them.
"You see the markings on this knife." Indy said. "The writing on the blade is in ancient Roman!" "What does that mean?" Higgins asked. "It doesn't mean anything." Indy
said.
Seeing no sign of booby traps Indy walked up the steps towards the golden prize.
As he reached out his hand to take the trident a blade cut through the air and imbeded itself in Indiana's shoulder. "DAM*IT!" Indy yelled! "WHAT HAPPENED?" Higgins said. "There's someone up in the rafters!" Indy yelled.
Pulling out his revolver Higgins fired three rounds right at the shadow in the rafters. With superhuman agility the "man" evaded his shots and disapeared into the darkness.
"What the hell was that?" Higgins asked. "Look at this." Indy said. The writing on the blade that caught me in the shoulder is ancient Roman, just like the writing on the one in the dead conquistador." "So your saying that those *ahem* men are the direct descendants of the ancient romans?" "Exactly." Indy said.
Seeing no more danger at the moment Indy and Corporal Higgins headed up the steps to Neptunes Trident.
Out of the corner of his eye Higgins saw something that made him drop.
Another man appeared in the rafters with a knife raised over his head ready to throw. There was no escape, not this time. While awaiting the unavoidable Corporal Higgins heard the sound of tearing flesh. Suprisingly though there was no pain.
"Well don't just lay there." Exclaimed Indy. "Get up!" "Thats another one I owe you." Higgins said. "Thanks old friend."
The mans body slumped and fell from the rafters with the Roman blade in his chest. Just before he died he uttered something in ancient Roman that Indy translated into "Neptune will have his revenge on world who betrayed him." "Doubt thats gonna happen." Indy said.
Beliving themselves to be out of danger Indy removed the trident from its stand and headed down the stone steps.
"Finally after three years of searching and following clues we've got our hands on it!" Indy exclaimed.
Suddenly to Indiana's and Corporal Higgins suprise the stone skull behind the trident stand began to emit a green glow, and a hideous grey wrinkled creature appeared in the center of the antichamber floor. "Oh my god..." Higgins exclaimed. "Is that Neptune?" Higgins asked. "I don't know." Indy said.
"You, you never existed." Higgins said. "You can't be alive!" "Not alive, just a memory of the Romans who worshiped me." Neptune said in a low raspy voice. "Your nothing like the ancient depictions the Romans made of you." Indy exclaimed. "Thats because they made them out of fear." Neptune rasped. "They thought if they depicted me in a less gruesome manner I would show them mercy. I "died" when the Romans abandoned me to the Christian God. Now I will have my revenge on the very people who deserted me.
"Not likley" Higgins said as he pulled out his revolver and shot 5 rounds through Neptunes head. Not affecting Neptune in any way the rounds hit the adjourning wall.
Knocking Indy and Higgins back by forces unknown Neptune was in complete control.
With strength born of terror Higgins grabbed Indy's whip cracked it at the neptunes trident and pulled it out of his hands.
With all the strength he could muster Corporal Higgins threw Neptunes trident into the skull.
When the last flicker of green light disapeered from the skulls eys Neptune was gone. Never again to arise.
Once Neptune was gone one of the Roman descendants fell from the rafters and thanked them in Roman which Indy translated as "Thank you for freeing our people from our
enslavement"
Suddenly a violent earthquake filled the antichamber and collapsed the rafters and walls. Killing the Roman and destroying the chamber "Run!" Higgins ordered.
"Wait! The trident I can get it!" Indy yelled.
"What the hell? Indy NO! Leave it!" Higgins yelled.
In a desperate lunge to reach the trident. Indy was pulled back by Higgins.
"Henry, every since we fought together in the Great War we've been friends. I'm not going to let you die over some artifact. It isn't worth it" Higgins said. "Your right Joseph" Indy said.
