Over the course of a few weeks back when I first discovered LDD, I learned it was possible to quickly put together a "spider" like robot using the "parabolic Ring" and attaching a leg to each of the 8 segments. Since I had the notion that an evil army such as the Space Skulls would use robots intended to strike fear into their enemies, a spider would be perfect.
My early attempts mostly focused on models which were a hybrid of spider and octopus elements with tentacle like arms and rigid spider legs.
This design was meant to be a commanding unit, as seen by the "microphone" headset, epaulettes and the traditional Space Skulls red and black colour scheme.
Obligatory critique:
The "knees" of the spider don't work as well as I'd hoped, but do make it possible to put the legs in a variety of poses. The elongated arms now look a little disproportionate as does the extended head crest, though with the longer legs this doesn't seem quite as imbalanced as some shorter spider bot designs.
I would also add some method of bending or turning at the hip now, the idea of a static waist seems slightly unfinished.
The white "claws" seem out of place now, I'd probably use the much longer black ones today and fewer joints on the legs. The only problem with this is that the black "tip of tail" piece is not available for purchase via LDD here in Spain. Go figure.
