Phipson and Kaleta invade Legoland in Schaumburg, Il.
Welcome to LegoLand Discovery center. Pay no attention to the hooded man next to the map of the building… Let’s start our tour shall we?
The first exhibit in Legoland is the lake front area of Chicago. Here’s their version of Navy Pier.
And a nice little lighthouse at the mouth of the Chicago River.
As a Chicagoan, I should really know the name of this building… but I don’t. Looks cool though huh? (It might be the Tribune building, but I'm not gonna put any money on it.)
Some really nice relief work on this bridge. I’d love to try some stuff like this myself but grey minifigs are so hard to come by… that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
“Ok, so if I take SNOT Street up two blocks and cut over on Cheese Slope Blvd…”
Look at that, someone went and threw away a perfectly good R2 unit. And it looks like Santa didn’t pay off the Elves Union boss like he should have. Welcome to Chicago!
Sing along! “Love and marriage, love and marriage. Go together like a horse and carriage…” Man I just TOTALLY showed my age there.
Look here, not only did they dig up a dinosaur at this construction site, but if they dig about 4 feet to the left, they’ll find Jimmy Hoffa!
Moving on to the next exhibit, I found a decapitated lizard model. For a moment, I wondered what calamity had befallen this poor reptile…
The mystery was solved when the apex predator Dave came back for seconds. Never leave a fresh kill unguarded.
Heeeeere kitty, kitty, kitty.
Dave’s monkey needed a spanking… insert your own joke here.
And I was so close to making an “I want my mummy” joke here… so close.
Dave prostrating himself before his hero. Should I make a joke about the fact that Batman wears tights and lives in a cave with a young boy… moving on.
Chris: “Ok, if you bring me Megablocks ONE… MORE… TIME!”
I should really switch to The Galactic Empire Bank to avoid those $3.50 convenience fees.
Oh how cute. Darth Vader inducting new little Sith lords.
Onwards to the Dragon ride! Not as much fun as it sounds, but the builds are cool.
I’ll bet good money that that tail belongs to his mother in law. Just look at the sheer terror on his face.
Or maybe it was Dave’s date for his high school prom?
Dragon: “Throw the stick, throw the stick, I want the stick, gimme the stick, come on throw it, throw the stick, PLEEEASE throw the stick, wanna get the stick, throw the stick, THROW THE STICK!”
After the ride, Dave got a little hungry. Always remember your four basic food groups. Bread, meat, cheese and ABS!
The sign on the men’s room door. Some jokes just write themselves…
I tried to get Dave to let me enter this as my mosaic in the MocAthalon. By my reaction you can probably guess what his answer was.
We even took the time to take the building workshop. We learned how to build the Sears tower… or the Willis tower… or whatever the building is called these days.
Dave making sure every piece was juuuust right.
Dave’s tower is on the left. Mine is on the right… You know Dave, I’m pretty sure Lee can get you a pill to help with that.
Time for another sing along! Whoooooo lives in the Lego store and is smiling at me? SPONGE BOB SQUARE PANTS!
All too soon it was time to head home. We decided in honor of Dennis Price to have lunch at Chipotle before calling it a day.
And Legoland will never be the same. It’ll be worse when we all hit this place in June again, but never the same.
Fourth Wall Commentary: It’s ok, you can feel jealous now. Last week, Dave told me he was heading to Legoland to scout it out for a field trip that he was going to take his class on. He could bring someone with him and foolishly chose me, MUHAHAHA! I have to thank Dave for inviting me to tag along knowing full well that he would be the brunt of most of the jokes for this post. Thanks for the invite Dave, despite having to be such a short trip, it was a blast!
SWEET!!! You guys are lucky in the USA with LegoLand & Lego Conventions, one day I shall come to your shores from the land down under & rejoice in the things that are LEGO!!!. You are invited to view & comment my Battle of Endor MOC which is now finally complete. [MAY THE BRICKS BE WITH YOU]
Lol hilarious jokes :D man your so lucky, i've never been to that legoland only the one in california, but i'm sure it was just as awesome! In california the dragon was a roller coaster ride, sure is defferent looking
lol Nice one Crispy! That's pretty much a perfect day for me: Legoland followed by Mexican. BTW, that map of the centre (first pic) would look cool built in real Lego-methinks you could make those guys an offer to build one for them (for a fee of course)???
WHOA! Can't believe I missed out on this place last summer on vacay down Chicago way..... *sigh* there's always next time...
