Entry from Praeclari Miles for category "Lego Architecture" in the 2010 MOC Athalon.
About this creation
I realize I have chosen a lesser known structure, which may put me at a disadvantage. However, the idea of an almost 400ft tall monolith that creates enough electricity to power 6,000 homes is just too cool to pass up. Read more and see a reference picture at the wiki here .
Basically, a lot of mirrors are focused on one point. The heat from the combined energy is enough to convert water to steam. The resulting pressure powers a turbine, which generates electricity. Since its power comes from the sun, this structure has zero (0) emissions.
I tried plenty of techniques to try to get the smoothness and proportion right but nothing seemed to work as well as just good ol' studs up. Too simple? You decide.
The presentation is the star here. I would have liked to see a little more attention placed on the landscaping (a green baseplate doesn't do it for me). I award 4 points.
Nicely executed and quite recognizable to me! This was one of the ideas I had in mind when planning for the microscale category in the MOC Olympics. I must say, though, your vision was better... XD
Now who is this "Alex" that comes out of the wings and starts nailing categories one after another. A fine build, and of something that I would have never thought to build. A solid four (4) points. Lee.
