Spectrum Top
A spinning black octahedron interlayered with a color gradient from red to blue.
About this creation
The MOCathlon it taking most of my LEGO time, but I came up with this while doodling, so I'll take the chance to post it, seen how it's been a while since my last post.

Though you can't tell it from this, it's actually spinning.

Here, let me adjust the shutter's speed for you... here you go.

It spins for something over 20 seconds, thanks to the fact that the upper half is hollow, and the lower half is filled with 3 2x2 plates (a 2x2 brick was too light. Maybe 12 1x1 plates would have been even better).

Well, that's it. I'm surprised on how much I was able to write about such a small, simple MOC... but as long as it made you smile, it's fine :)

Edit: despite my best efforts, I have never been able to make it spin for more than 14 seconds since the first time :(

Comments are welcome.

Very nice Yuri, hopefully with the inclusion of the top catagory in the Mocathalon then the Annual Yuri Fassio spinning top contest should see lots more entries! What, you weren't going to do one this year? Too late now, you've started a fad!

Glad to see that the contest hasn't dragged you away from your bricks completely. Very cool that you and Dave both did a build in the contests categories. Thanks again for being a good dude and entertaining my whining. ;^)~H

Great idea and execution. I love the idea of the 2x2 curved tile on the bottom. Must work really well because I don't think I can even spin a real top for that long. -Sam

I give it 4 points. It's a (deceptively) simple design with some sweet colors! Joking aside, no one owns this genre like you! You invented it after all! Now get back to judging! ~ Chris

3/5... Just kidding! This is definitly a 2 XD(sorry, I couldn't help it) Awesome looking top! It has a very unique shape that you don't see very often and the rainbow idea looks great on it! It spins so fast it doesn't look like it's moving :) I'm suprised you had enough time to build this! Phipson better have some sort of gift basket or something for you guys. You deserve it for all the bull you've put up with since the moc-athalon started :)

meant to say "mocathalon" rather than just "moc"... would edit first comment, but could loose first post status so i thought i would "spam" you instead. nice colour gradient, I always do it the other way up, Red down to Blue/Violet... EDIT: wait, just realised when it's spinning it's the same order as I have it. I'll be quiet now
