Well this is new for me, building this large a ship first of all. And then posting it on MOCpages.com!
First of I want to thank Ben Fellowes for the inspiration. He build an amazing version of the Normandy SR2! It tried to ''replicate'' it as much as possible. But considering the fact I am quite the amateur building this large. I actually had to use al my whites, grays and blacks to build this beasty.
Its currently holding around 1.20 meters. A tad shorter than the brilliance that is Bens version. Also I had to cut quite a few corners as you may have noticed. Color wise and construction wise due to my limited resources and to be honest, skills.
I have to note that the wings or not self-supporting. They are partially resting on the table and on the super structure itself. But all in all Im pretty happy with it. The main problem was getting the strange shape of the upper section main hull. And juggeling with the limited amount of lego pieces I have.
Hope you like it and once again thanks to Ben for the inspiration, this is a tribute to his amazing design!
Thanks for the compliments! Ill try and see if I can upload more pictures. Had some trouble with it lately. I had a lot of problems with balance and structural issues. The front end kept on twisting and breaking down. I had to add a considerable amount of weight to the aft section and try to reinforce the front section as light as possible. Not easy but it kinda worked.
Looking forward to see the technique you used on the wings.
I'd heard that my SR2 had inspired others to build their own, but had no idea anyone would even consider the same design - and from images alone! I'm deeply flattered. Upload more pics - it looks pretty nice with dark red instead of orange. Unsuprisingly, I used up most of the colours I used too (then again, she was built from the leftovers of another model!). I'll send you the design for the wing/hull connection if you like, that should do the job in supporting the weight!
