The Road
Eurobricks' Finest - MOCathon 2010 'Post-Apoc' entry
About this creation
I decided to take a detour from the usual post-apocalyptic themed deserts, salvaged battle cars and Max Max style trappings, basing my MOC instead on The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

The Road is set in the near future where a cataclysm has destroyed civilisation and almost all life on Earth. It follows the journey of a father and son across a completely desolate landscape as they stive to head South, to survive, to "keep the fire burning" and hopefully find something worth living for in a dead world.

My MOC is a snap-shot of time where their journey has taken them through a ruined town, passing the remnants of fallen society and happening across a macabre sight...

Ashes continuously fall from the sky, muting the landscape to shades of grey.

Father and Son on the road, bags and rucksacks holding all their worldly possessions.

Much of humankind has resorted to cannibalism for survival. Nomadic groups hunt other survivors, butchering them where they stand and harvesting them for their meat. This poor soul has befallen this terrible fate, his bones char on an open fire...

Cafe Corner for the doom generation!

With no food those who don't resort to cannibalism risk starvation.

Relics of the past litter the streets...

Hope you like it. It's pretty bleak but then so is the subject matter! I'm not 100% happy with the main photo - my camera seems to have some crazy grain filter all of it's own - but maybe it suits the scene. I may take those first few shots if I have time. Thanks to M. Jasper for inpsiration on the shopping trolley design.

Comments and criticism welcome as always.

Many thanks for the kind comments and points!
Quoting Lee Jones A stunning build, and the whole thing screams anguish at the loss of society. The man pushing the cart and the crying kid made it for me - that picture alone would be worth top points. I am curious, the hair piece on the man pushing the buggy - is it custom? Five (5) points. Lee.
It's one of Arealight's very nice custom parts and one of my most favourite hair pieces! I've got it in black and tan too - tan looks awesome on Luke Skywalker minifigs.

Thank you for no zombies. A great build with nice touches -- love the baby buggy and the shopping cart especially, and the street lights are something I may have to steal someday, too. Carnage, pathos, and a blubberin' kid: ya can't beat that!

If you aren't, then join it and add it there. If you can't find it, just go to one of the team's MOCs, you'll see ours added there on the right side.

Reminds me a lot of the video game Black. I really like the floor joists sticking out inside the building.

Quoting Finn C-Q Nice! It's very accurate to the movie. What part is this? The one with the Bowman?
It could definatey be seen that way, however it's more like a pastiche of scenes from the novel, trying to sum up the novel in a scene. Other people don't play a massive part really.

This is a wonderful creation and a perfect way to take the category. I think a slightly larger build, or maybe some forced perspective could have pushed it over the edge for me. 4 points.

The shopping cart is brilliant, I love those kind of details. In the name of good gamesmanship, you need to add the name of your TEAM to the introduction, before the judges get ya! Once again, great work on the MOC.~H
