Then They Came: Pt. 1 - Epilogue
We thought we were safe. We thought nothing was going to ever happen. We were wrong.
About this creation

It could have been he was taking after this Great-Great Grandfather, Adolf Hitler's, steps. It could have been that his name, Tepofarkas Tanitvany, meant "Disciple of the Devil", but whatever the reason, the man, nicknamed "Szellem" or "Demon" by his childhood victims, had wanted to take over the world from the very beginning. OK, so maybe he didn't want the ENTIRE world when he was young, but he had overtaken his entire neighborhood. Kids at his school respected him out of pure fear. Szellem wanted everyone, not just his classmates, to fear him. When he became King of Hungary, all his classmates and enemies from so many years before somehow thought that Hungary would be doomed for disaster.

His wife helped him in his monarchy. In fact, she helped him come up with the plan. You see, 3 years ago, in 2023, Hungary secretly sent a shuttle to the moon, carrying a giant drill machine. The purpose was to go where no space exploration mission had gone before: Underground. They drilled and drilled and drilled for 5 days straight. Finally, they struck gold. Metaphorically speaking, of course. Underneath the surface of the moon, there was a hidden web of chambers and corridors. Every hundred feet there was a large room filled with an army of androids. In one of the rooms, Szellem, his wife, and the captain of the shuttle found a baby extraterrestrial. They later learned that the child had been abandoned, with no room left on the escape pods, as the population of the underground city fled, as their outposts had picked up the Hungarian shuttle on their radar. They loaded the shuttle with the android army and smuggled them to earth, cargo hold by cargo hold, for 2 weeks. They kept the army in another underground facility, deep underneath the surface of Russia. The baby alien had been taken in by the Tanitvany family and for 1 year, nothing happened.

Very few stood up to Szellem. This is the Omega Squad. They were created by the U.S. government in 2012 to assist the soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq as progress in the war against terrorism steeply declined. With that war won, the Omega Squad had dispersed, with nothing to do. 2 years ago they had to reform, because of what had happened. The only girl in the squad was my girlfriend. When I say WAS, I don't mean we broke up. Here, let me tell you our story.

It was a sunny spring afternoon. We sat underneath this sculpture, outside the Seattle Science Center. We sat in the green grass, a portable radio in between the two of us.

We had it turned to Country music, her favorite music. Oh yeah, did I mention her name was Janelle? Well, it is. Her favorite song, "The Time Bandit", came on with its catchy intro tune. Janelle hummed along.

Suddenly, the song was interrupted by a monotone voice announcing a national emergency.

We looked at each other, she grabbed up the radio, switched it off, and jogged towards the Space Needle, which was not even 200 yards away. We showed the guard our day passes that we had bought that morning, and walked briskly to the elevator.

We waited as patiently as we could, holding hands. The elevator made a soft ding, the doors opened and we hurried out.

We each popped a quarter into the binoculars near the edge of the observation deck and we looked through.

Everywhere I looked, a bluish-gray mass approached the heart of Seattle. I squinted my eyes as the mass decreased the distance between it and us. I could see thousands and thousands of robot-type things.

I assumed that Janelle saw the same thing, as the gasped and ran to my side. I looked at her, and said simply, "We have to go." She nodded, we walked back to the elevator, and retraced our steps. I heard screams as we exited the Needle.

I grabbed Janelle's hand and we ran inside the Science Center, ignoring the guard yelling at us to stop.

We ran down a ramp and sidestepped into an empty I-MAX theater. We dove beneath a row of chairs, holding on to each other for dear life. We heard yelling outside, accompanied by a great rumbling sound.

The two doors to the theater burst open, shedding the room with light. I heard an eerie, robotic voice say, "There's someone in here."

Janelle grasped my shirt tighter as the robots began to fill the aisles, searching for us. An android stopped right in front of the chair under which we were hiding. I sucked in a sharp intake of breath. Suddenly, the deafening voice of the bot seemed to scream, "They're over here!"

I felt cold, metallic hands grab me around the biceps and drag me out from underneath the chair, another doing the same to Janelle. I kicked and screamed, struggling against the humanoid robot.

I grabbed my robot's head, and with a hard jerk and ripped it off. I was showered in sparks as the wires dangling from the head sparkled and shimmered.

I fought my way to the nearest exit.

I turned back. "Janelle! Run!" I screamed.

She struggled, but another droid grabbed her and dragged her back. Well, that was the last I saw of her. So where am I now, you ask?

That's right. Jail. You see, since what happened in Seattle, I joined the Intergalactic Police. On my last mission, to recover a stolen death ray, I was captured by the same alien that the Tanitvany had taken in. So, long story short I ended up in jail.

I stood staring at the blank wall of my cell, away from the storm that was raging on outside my cell block, 231. A drip of water dropped onto my helmet, splashing into my eye. I angrily wiped it away.

"You have a new cellmate," the guard android of my cell block announced, and I sensed it on the lift right behind me. I could hardly care less. 'Well,' I thought miserably, 'Now I'll be a little less lonely.'

"Bring him in," I said, turning my head a fraction to the right. "Kyle?" a woman's voice said right behind be. I turned, "Janelle?"

We embraced, the storm raging on outside of the cell.

"What're you doing here?" she asked, pushing back my hair. I pointed to my badge. "Intergalactic Police." I said, "I've been here a while." Janelle smirked. "Well, I won't." She grasped the bars of the cell, peering into the night sky.

"The Omega Squad will be here any minute now," she said confidently, "It's the same routine over and over again. One of us gets captured, the rest of us go and save the person. Same story every time." I rolled my eyes. She just seemed so confident. Suddenly, heavy metal music blasted through the night. It started off quiet at first, then gradually grew louder and louder, until an obscure helicopter-like shape emerged out of the darkness.

"Hey Jennie!" a voice called out of the night. I growled under my breath. That way my pet name for her.

"We're gonna get you outta here!" yelled the same voice, the sound of the chopper, now only about 10 feet from the bars, almost drowning out the voice.

"Kyle, I need you to trust these people," Janelle whispered in my ear, her voice barely audible over the whirring of the chopper. "I'll try," I whispered back.

We kissed. Memories flooded my brain. Happy summer nights, afternoons at the soda shop, the list goes on and on.

A man, maybe in his mid 30s, leaped off the tail of the helicopter, holding a large hook in his hands. He latched it onto one of the crossbars of the prison wall, the clanging of the metal on metal piercing the night.

The chopper whirred forward, the rope attached to the hook unwinding. There was a great screech, a grinding and then-

CLANG! The bars clattered off, the din nearly deafening me. Janelle let out a sigh of relief.

"Thanks, guys!" Janelle screamed over the roar of the storm and the helicopter.

Janelle hopped down from our second-story cell onto the bars that had, several seconds ago, covered the front side of our cell. "Told 'ya," Janelle muttered back to me. I rolled my eyes. Same old Janelle. Always trying to get the best of me.

She slid down the bars, the same man that had placed the hook on the bars holding out his arms to welcome her. She smiled and greeted him with a kiss on the cheek.

I growled under my breath as I slowly clambered down the bars.

"Kyle, let my introduce you to the Omega Squad."

"This is Doc, RJ, Frank, and Dax."

"Janelle! Look out!" RJ yelled as the android guard to our cell block screeched and raised its plasma spear above its head.

RJ tackled the robot, and grabbed its head as I had done in that I-MAX theater 2 years ago.

He pulled the head off with one, fluid motion and showed it to everyone. I rolled my eyes. He seemed a little full of himself.

"C'mon you guys! We don't wanna get caught around here!" said Dax, "Remember last time?" Frank chuckled and rubbed the back of his head. "Whoops..."
