Fully Functioning Remote controlled 8043 Excavator in RED. This Excavator operates with 3 Power Functions Remotes, 3 IR Receivers, 6 M-Motors 2 Rechargeable New style Battery Packs, and soon lights. This is a very nice kit once released, I am anxious to see how they addressed certain issues. I made my own Boom, as the movement of the Lego boom was not as good as I would have liked. I like the look of my boom, takes around 15 minutes to change out booms. I made this excavator in red, because the yellow parts are not available to my knowledge as of yet. I will Upload video soon. Please enjoy!
About this creation
Recent updates include 3rd revision boom, more length and better dexterity with a better look. I had to upgrade the slip gears to 2 per function with the exception of raise and lower of main boom. The new overall boom is heavier but can lower into the earth to deeper than before. Rotation of main cab improved. Over all this thing is pretty tough and works well now that all the kinks are out.
Superb job !
I like the compact and clean undercarriage construction and enclosed upperwork with a bonnet.
Please, make a complete instruction and a list of extra part needed, in addition of 8043 set.
This mod definitely deserved it !
It's a pity that Lego still doesn't support a realistic bucket for excavator.
Are they use this, too wide bucket, to fit it also in wheelloader models ?
8043 definitely deserved on more narrow bucket, suitable for backhoe type excavator.
Is there any other bucket type available or should we have saw and glue... ?
I have waited for realistic and playable remote controlled excavator for many years and i think the Lego 8043 with mods is it !
It is great, that movements are realistically slow.
Many models movement are usually too fast for realistic operation, but movements of this 8043 excavator is slow enough.
Many thanks indeed, and waiting the instruction emerging in this site.... ;)
The idea of producing a set of pictures while disassembling is great. I ordered some more bits and pieces and will work this weekend a bit more on building the boom arm (set is still not out in Germany) ...even with some last points where I am not quite sure how you did it (maybe there are also some new pieces I don't have in my collection included) I am pretty confident having a much better boom arm ready when the set comes out :-)

Hi Fyredog,
WOW - saw your red excavator here and at the MOCpages and am really impressed. Especially your 3rd revised boom arm looks like a brilliant refinement of the original.
I am currently trying to rebuild it from the pictures that you posted but have big difficulties getting behind the construction lower end, the first bend and the mounting of the double cylinders. Any chance that post some more pictures without shethings?
Many thanks and best regards from Germany,
Volker
(Same post as on Eurobricks :-)
Thanks for the Kind words! I have posted some pictures - let me know if you need any more! - I am seriously thinking about disassembling this and taking careful photos along the way so I can make an instructional on how to build this thing.

This thing is clean! Will the boom go any lower so the bucket can dig lower than the machine? Do you know the release date for this model? Great job!
Thank you! Yes the boom will dig earth just like it should, I am currently working on a newer better boom, actually a little bigger too. This requires a little more work in the gear area, as the boom is heavier and the clutch gears can't handle it. But I have ideas, just need to implement. Stay tuned

Hi Fyre, Incredible! I am amazed that you realised all those functions in your design. And it looks beautiful in red too ... Looking forward to your video!
