Kevin's Raikou for March
Raikou: A legendary electric type pokemon from the second gen.
About this creation
The Legendary beast of lightning Raikou, kickin' it in his favorite club, the burned tower. All the big names hang out here. Raikou, Entei, Suicune, there's even a rumor that Lugia used to chill up on the roof. It's pretty exclusive, so don't expect to meet any VIPs (Very Important Pokemon), they'll bolt as soon as they see you.

So anyway, Raikou is the electric third of johto's legendary beast trio, all of which are notoriously difficult to catch. (Except suicune in Crystal and HG/SS) Once you scare them out of the burned tower, they'll roam across johto hiding in the tall grass. If you do happen to encounter one of them, they'll run. If you try to trap them with arena trap or shadow tag, they'll use roar. The only way to keep them in battle is to put them to sleep or use a pokemon with the ability suction cups. (Octilary or Cradilly)

Or you could just use your master ball.

Anyway, on with the MOC!

The idea to put Raikou in the burned tower actually came fairly late in the design process. I couldn't figure out a body I liked, so I tried a bunch of different poses, and the seated one just did it for me. Then all of a sudden, I thought of the three beasts sitting in the burned tower, and thought to myself "I have to make it". Well, I didn't make Entei or Suicune, but maybe it's something for the future.

So here's the face. Blood sweat and tears were shed in the design process.

I started out knowing that I wanted to use knives for the teeth, and not much else. The flipper idea actually came pretty shortly after that. I was just madly scrambling to find any blue piece that looked even remotely like raikou's nose-whisker-plate thing, and the slipper was the one that made the cut in the end. After that, I just had to frame the shape I wanted and try to cram eyes in there somehow. Easier said than done.

So anyway, after I got the head done, I couldn't figure out a way to attach it to anything. I played around with a jaw, but it just ended up looking dumb and inhibiting the mane, so I scraped it. My biggest gripe with the model in general is that the curls of fur on top of his head are spaced too far apart. I tried tons of variants to get them closer together, but none of them flowed like the one I used in the end.

Ahh, the mane. I knew I was using the light purple slopes because I didn't want to use technic and didn't have any other notable purple. The implementation however, was a problem.

I ended up going with a slightly asymmetrical build, mostly because of the way I got the head to attach. But I like it more this way in retrospect. The idea was to make it look like the mane was draped over his left shoulder. I think it worked out okay.

So that's Raikou. Until next time pokebros.

Completely sorry I forgot to like this creation man! I completely agree with you that fitting the eyes in was a nightmare. -Sam

Excellent work Kevin. I like how you went with a completely different pose then the previous three. The cape is awesome, and the head design and parts usage is ingenious. -Sam
