USS West Virginia
USS West Virginia, a Colorado Class Battleship. As she appeared at Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 when she was attacked and sunk. She was raised and refitted at Puget Sound Naval shipyard Washington, and rejoined the US Pacific Fleet in 1944. The lego ship is 8 feet long, and weighs about 200 lbs. She was built from the keel up with frames, she is not solid. The lego West Virgina has been on display at the US Naval recruiting center in Fort Collins, Colorado, the local library, and at the Main Street Market in Wellington for the anniversary of Pearl Harbor. She was also featured in the local paper, and on Denver Channel 7 for the same event.

200 hundred pounds and not solid?! Most of the weight must be the detail then!

Actually I used oak teak for the deck. I used the tan legos first, but I got a wild hair, and decided to make it look more real. Yes I painted the rust on the side to give it more of a "used " look.

Awesome ship. What type or color of bricks are you using for the deck? Did you paint rust on the side of the ship by the port holes?

How do you add it to groups? The bi-planes were characteristic for the 1930's late 40's I think. I was going to build more "modern" 1941 era planes, but haven't had a chance.

Epic build mate, for goodness sake add it to some groups, this should be getting a bit more attention than it has, collossal work... (I would dump the bi-planes though?) That said, great work, 5/5.

From the distance it looks good ... and not so good ... Can I see more pictures? close ups? :-) Until I can see more, its 3/5. Hope to see the rest of it soon. Now I know how you are building ships and without the remaining (missing) pictures I raise to 5/5 :-)

She's magnificent, Joe! Nice to see someone doing a sculpture in commemoration of PHDay. We did a small "carry around" Arizona two Decembers ago...but nothing like this!! Truly a beauty...VERY well done
