Lunar explorers follow rover tracks they didn't make, at last coming to a rover much like theirs, but older...much older.
About this creation
"...Moonbase, Moonbase...the tracks lead to...we're coming up on another rover. It looks a lot like our own rover...but...older...and there are two people...well, two suits in it...I'm coming around for a closer look..."
Inspired by an Apollo astronaut's fever-dream, as described in this interview (search for 'dream', near the end) and as illustrated in this photo-collage.
I have a feeling I saw someone else's LEGO interpretation of this scene years ago, but if so, I can't find the link now.
Charlie Duke, the astronaut who had the dream, says it was vivid but not scary. Good for him; but I couldn't resist making my LEGO version scary.
I had some old sand-stained classic-space spacesuits; when I saw one of those yellowed old helmets next to a bright white skull, I realized I just had to build this scene. I think of it as a sequel to set 886-1.
The mysterious encounter was even photographed from orbit....
