Fallingwater
Famous house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
About this creation
Building info:

Fallingwater, also known as the Edgar J. Kaufmann Sr. Residence, is a house designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1934 in rural southwestern Pennsylvania, 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The house was built partly over a waterfall in Bear Run at Rural Route 1 in the Mill Run section of Stewart Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, in the Laurel Highlands of the Allegheny Mountains. For the rest of the information regarding the house please visit Wikipedia.

Project:

I've had thoughts about this project since I've built Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye. I finally made up my mind in September 2009. when I began planning and working on some early designs. Scale of the building is minifig, or approximate 1:40. One of the issues was how to make the stone walls of the building. The result here is made out of 4 different shades of grey (old grey and bley). Other was the terrain and vegetation. In the end I decided to make it in winter atmosphere. Snow is something I always enjoy, and I was always more of a winter type of person, so here it is - my first snowy MOC. :)

Building process spread over total of almost 7 months, and the structure is made out of more than 15000 bricks (just an approximate guess). It is placed on 6 48*48 baseplates, and measures 115 x 80 x 50 cm. It weights more than 20 kg. This MOC will be displayed in Technical Museum in Zagreb on "Kockice EXPO 2010", in May and June this year.

This is my second largest project so far. The largest is still Zagreb Art Pavillion.

I would like to thank dear Klementina for her help and support during the rough times - multiple structure collapses. ;)

You, sir, are a master of your craft. Every detail is well thought out and the sharp edges and clean lines make this look just like an architectural model. Fabulous work, as usual.~H

I'm not sure what to say - WOW or AMAZING or OUTSTANDING or INCREDIBLE or AWESOME just doesn't seem to say enough. I truly think that you've way surpassed the Falling Water Lego model. I absolutely love all of the details - the stones, the waterfall, the reflection of the water (I could keep going on and on). Please keep them coming. You are a true inspiration for me.

I am amazed by the amount of detail you have put into this, especially the stone/brick wall in two shades of grey. Very impressive, 5/5 all the way. :)

structurally the brick has it's limit's, you have engineered a most beautiful building here, the stone has texture as well as colour and the snow detail simply great. an outstanding build.

Just two words; FAN-tastic! I saw a model of this house at a special Lloyd exhibition at the Guggenheim museum here in Bilbao, but your surrounding landscaping makes quite a difference from the "sterile" arquitectual models. Also impressive the size of the MOC!

....ow my head. I seem to have passed out when I saw the title. Whew! THIS is epic. I'm calling a new MOTD (D as in Decade). I especially love the snow twist to this. I see the little halfstud offsets as well. One thing you might want to consider is the water. It needs more ice encroachment along the sides. Other than that minor flaw this is just gorgeous!

To say the least, you definitely have a MOCie nomination coming from me. Everything from the stonework to the water fall was crafted beautifully. I happened to study this in a college class just a few weeks ago and I know a bit about it. I can say from that experience that this thing is pretty dang realistic. Great work. -Dylan

Truly outstanding. I'm not entirely sure (even after looking at the Flickr stream) is the technique used for the river black 1x2 bricks on their sides? That what it looks like to me at least. The reflective quality they provide is wonderful.

The stone work and the waterfall itself are stellar work my friend. You're right, the winter touch is awesome. The best part of this beautiful MOC is the fact that you stuck it out and didn't compromise on the overall look you wanted. Well done!
