BD 001 Variable Mech "Blood Diamond"
This is my 2nd entry for the 2010 Mech Contest in the EXO-FORCE category. After a week of building and rebuilding, I present the BD 001 Variable Mech "Blood Diamond"! Nothing cute or funny here. I was going for total badassery with this mech. Did i achieve it? We'll let the judges decide! I figured the best way to approach this category was to imagine what kind of Exo-Force set I would like to have. And, of course, it has to be a mech that transforms! The "Blood Diamond" is armed with a gattling laser cannon and a back-mounted concussion bomb launcher. It got it's name from the fact that when it attacks it cuts through the enemy like a blade as sharp as a diamond and leaves a bloody trail in it's wake! This is VERY influenced by the Robotech Veritech fighter design. Please RATE and COMMENT:)
About this creation

Hikaru at the controls!

Close-up of the bomb launcher.

Action pose!

Even the gun transforms...

...The handle folds up...

and becomes the ship's main weapon!

Overhead shot.

I made the cockpit seat fold up and down like a recliner so Hikaru can look forward in both modes!

Gratuitous Action Pose!

Waaaayyy better than any official Exo-mech. Not only does it look totally great at the first pictures, it transforms into a beautiful jet as well. That stunt takes a lot of talent in a builder!

Yay, transforming Exo-Force! Both modes are pretty cool. The jet mode has a lot of under carriage, but it just seems right and matches very well with the overall look. Great work!

Yeah I'm with everybody else. At first (no offense intended), but I was like "what the....? This isn't moodswim-sih!" Then it transformed and I thought "Ah ha! There it is." So, I cannot justify giving a mech that transforms, and transforms well anything less than 5 PTS.

well my last post is getting modded, so Ill just post again just in cases - 5 PTS. At first I didn't think it was much, but the transformation made it worth the fiver. good job

I think this is the best transforming mech I've ever seen, so this surely gets a 5 from me!

Very nice. However, the one thing that makes me think of it as not a Exo-Force type mech is the lack of a hand to hand weapon, such as a sword or axe. But it's still great on its own and well deserving of a five from all the judges.

Like Mech man, I started at a 3, bumped it to a 4 due to the color pattern and poses, then you went and transformed it! Sweet....5 points amigo.

Everything looks rugged and tough. Beautiful model, but I don't like the feet too much. It looks like the Mech is standing on it's toes like a girly ballet dancer. Not that I don't like it, the model is build very great, but the feet disturb me. I personally would like to add some feet which allows to stand flat on the feet. It could make the knees more bendable without making the Mech fall down.

I was thinking all the way through, Im going to give it a three, till I saw the Transforming part. You did the EXO-FORCE team proud with this baby. Five points. ANd the feet were brilliant

Quoting Jason Dominguez Wow. This beats my Arkham all hollow. I love the concept, but I love Macross and Robotech (the VFs were used in both) so seeing on that bulky is a bit odd. Still, fantastic work! Incidentally, I would like to invite you to join Exo Force Builders Unanimous.
Thanks! I forgot to mention that this is VERY influenced by Robotech Macross Saga and the Veritech fighters. I've been wanting to build one forever, but can't get it right yet:)

Not bad, it could use some cleaning up in some places, such as tiling up that head, but overall nicely done!

Quoting Keith Johansen Darn it Moodswim, that is epic win! It's like Exo-Force meets Macross! Love the color scheme and the transform-ability. I have to ask, how'd you make shoulder joints that fold backwards? I have some ideas but I'd like to know how you did it.
Thanks! Lego actually makes hinge bricks where the tab goes horizontally instead of the usual vertically. So I attached "normal" hinge plates on the back and attached the "horizontal stud" bricks to the arm joints. Hope that's a good explanation.

Either model is worth five on its own, but the fact that they transform from one to the other is just amazing. Nice work!

Egads! You have achieved "yressadab" (you'll have to spell that backwards since spelling it the correct way sends this comment to limbo)! So far, between you and Jason Corlett, my chances of winning just went down to negative infinity!

Where can I get one of those?! When I saw the jet mode with those giant arms hanging on the belly, it instantly reminded me of starscream! I got mental images of this thing flying around, smacking other mechs out of the air :) well done, dude! Well done!
