AEGAKS-103-QGy "Fawkes"
A heavy Sniper/Artillery unit for frontline support. Contest Entry: Classic Mech Category 15/20
About this creation
Sir.
The Research facility has been hit. As you know, the enemy has been using larger siege armor now that the Arkham has tipped the balance. As such is not possible at this time, I am sending the presentation to you in this format. I trust you will recieve this report intact.

As a result of the recent use of larger armor on the battlefield, the Arkham squads have been losing ground. That is why we developed this. The AEGAKS-103-QGy "Fawkes".

The Fawkes most prominent feature is the Variable Output Guass Rifle, VOGR for short, or often called the Jouster Cannon. This weapon is the pride and joy of the Fawkes. At full power, the VOGR can place a round up to 25 miles at a parabolic arc of 45 degrees.

Piloting the Fawkes is Hitomi, an excellent sniper who can utilize the Fawkes' strengths well. Note the sophisticated sensor equipment which relays all targeting data to the pilot.

The other weapon utilized by the Fawkes is a large 24-round general-purpose missile launcher, which can track up to 12 independent targets simultaneously. Haevy armor ensures the missiles will not be detonated will in their tubes from flanking shots.

Notice the pivot joints on the cannon "arm" giving it more range than more traditional mounted weapons, which most typically track up and down only, and require the torso to turn. Also notice the quad leg platform, designed to give the Fawkes unparalleled stability and recoil suspression when firing the VOGR.

The "arms" of the Fawkes are removable, allowing for rearming of various other weapons, none of which survived the attack. This was the only of three prototype units to survive. The VOGR employs special tension joints to support it's weight and length, as well as to handle recoil. The barrel shaped magizine at the aft end of the VOGR is a uniquely designed revolver that loads the rounds into a center chamber from the clip collars on the outer interior, and then the center chamber is pulled into the firing chamber. This is to reduce strain on the firing chamber. The mag can hold 24 standard rounds or 12 artillery rounds.

As with all AEGAKS models, the pilot block is ejectable, which in turn sheds the unit's head and powercore. Note the heavier design used for the head. This was to improve survivablity of the unit's head. The Fawkes uses a standard AEGAKS operating system, meaning that it nueral links from the neck down, and motion traces the head.

Hitomi demanded that her pilot block be painted to mimic a sports car. The technicians complied with these unique detail works.

Two views of the torso to provide better views into the hardware. Two coolant heatsinks were built onto the back of the Fawkes to better direct the massive heat generated by the self contained VOGR, as well as act as platforms for mounted the sensor equipment. The torso meets the standard format aside from the quad leg design.

An underview side of the Fawkes' leg assembly. Note the larger feet in the back with further recoil suppressors to cushion recoil. Shock absorbers under the shins provide the bulk of recoil.

The next three show details of the frame used to support the Fawkes. These will be vital references to technician crews once the 103's are mass-produced.

Do note sir, that despite the heavy armor, the 103 Fawkes is not intended for frontline action. It can not engage close targets nor can it engage small targets or infantry. Each Fawkes will required a "bodyguard" if you will. However, if employed in longrange combat, the enemy's new seige armor should fall very quickly. Good luck to you sir. I hope this will be enough to turn the tide.

Bonus Pictures and Creator's Notes

The original concept as devised as an attachment to the ARTCS S-16KA Katana class. Here it is quite clear that the Katana could not even support its weight, let alone fire it, thus resulting in the shelving of the guass cannon until its use in the creation of the 103 Fawkes. Incidentally the driving force behind the design of the 103 is this weapon and my desire to use it.

The 103 Fawkes and its S-16 equivilent. In leu of the guass cannon, I designed the Katana's Railgun assembly. The Fawkes still gets bragging rights.

An interesting thing I found out. Because of the "waist" joint that I used in the torso, any AEGAKS that has the waist can "swap" parts with another unit. This is an interesting blend, I think.

The AEGAKS family protrait as it stands now. Hopefully, this will get bigger, but only time will tell.

Quoting mcwendys cardenal the greatest thing about all your mechs is your fearsome taste in weaponry, and how clever you are in making the weapons.
Thank you. You know what they always say, it's the weapons that make the mecha.

Quoting Mike Johnson Another beautiful build that I only just discovered this very minute! You certainly have found a niche building these particular mechs for everyone to enjoy. Perhaps I should try to build one of these but I don't know the history behind them and if I could do it justice it deserves.
Luckily, no knowlege of history is required. To make an AEGAKS, all that is needed is a pilot block, basic or variant. If you do want a brief on the history, I did post an introduction in my AEGAKS folder as the story redux. Happy building!

Quoting Logan Henley I love the interchangeable torsos. A message to Sensei Keiken was a surprisingly good way to deliver this info. Mind if I define some of my creations with debriefings to a leader too?
Absolutely. I'm not the first to present the information that way, and I won't be the last.

Quoting Jake Savage Wow, I can't believe I missed commenting on this before now! Excellent work mate, i love all the detail, and I must admit, I'm a sucker for really really big cannons:P
You think that's big? I've got plans drawn up for one that's going to be a mobile anti-orbital cannon. But it's going to be really parts-intensive, so it's going to be a long time.

you're developing a nice collection. I do really like the idea of having the parts able to be swapped out with other mechs, and you can still distinguish between the models. for this particular mechs score: it's woth a solid 4 PTS. I really like the non-traditional configuration, and I just like the idea of a sniping mech in general.

Quoting Keith Johansen ... However, since when does weight or size prevent a robot from using a weapon?...
It is too heavy if the arm can not physically hold the weapon up. The Katana is only able to pose for that shot because the cannon is resting on the knee. Standing, it can not lift it. LOL. Definitely overkill.

Interesting design, a quadruped mech. Reminds me of Evangelion 05 (piloted by Mari Illustrious in Rebuild 2.0). The interchangeability is a cool bonus. However, since when does weight or size prevent a robot from using a weapon? Just look at my Hub.ZX's new G-Shock Hammer XD Can't wait to see what sort of 4th AEGAKS you come up with.
