The mechanism is held on by Technic liftarm bars, so is pretty stable. But you could always change it to fit you creation just use their instruction as reference.

These might be of help. Go onto bricklink.com & look up part number 4216, 2454a or 6056. They are rail that guide vertical movement used in castle set.
