A long, long time ago I mentioned I had an idea for a Lego sculpture depicting the mind or the brain. Well, after much procrastination I finally got around to building it. Thing is, I'm really not all that keen on it now. The general idea was to imitate the structure of an iceberg-a small section above water and the main bulk of it underneath. This was to illustrate the (Freudian?) idea that the thinking, rational part of our mind is only the tangible, known component and that in the unreachable subconscious is the real mass of the mind, birthplace of the dream and the irrational. Both can interact but one cannot wholly control the other. Maybe they're fighting for dominance?
Anyway, I'm not really pleased with how the sculpture looks, with the added bonus that the photos were tricky and didn't turn out great. I may revist the theme again in the future though for a second attempt. Thanks for looking guys!
First verison of the brain looked like a computer cube. The squareness was to contrast with the crazy subconcious section below. I thought it looked a little too boring so I tried the hoses to hint at the shape of the brain. The hoses blend into the black technic frame more but I was hoping the colour contrast would be enough to divide the two.
And by the way, would you be interested in joining an Australian and New Zealand Builders group I'm about to make? you would be one of the admins and I've already asked Leda Kat and Darkspawn. Please respond, and would you also mind asking any other Aussie or Kiwi builders you know? I only know a few.
Too true, mate... As a fellow Australian, I can agree to this statement. There are only a few things I can think about thinking off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are other things lurking in the subconscious.
Actualy, I agree with you that it's not very good. I know what you can do, and it just looks like you weren't inspired when you built this. Can't wait for version #2 whenever you get the itch to build it.
Wait... what are you smoking again? Actually, joking aside, you've been able to represent the concept of what you were looking for very well. Not sure what that blue french tickler thing is supposed to represent, but we can quietly ignore that for now... HAHAHA Nice one ShannO! ~ Chris.
Looking at it now I think you should have made it look like an iceberg, either with trap doors or openings with scenes from the various places mapped out in Frued's chart. Scenes from Shannon's Id! Sub-conscience ramblings. The place where bad spelling comes from. Plenty to see. see ya. garth
