No Refuge: Part 14- The Wastes
Previously: Jake thought back on his failure in the city. A man returned his pistol and told Jake to come with him.
About this creation
Music for this part:

"You got a name son?"

"Yeah... Jake."

"Ah... Jake."

"Good name. Very strong."

Jake: "Not strong enough."

"Woa, Jake. Hold on a sec there."

"What's wrong?"

Jake: "I don't want to talk about it."

"Hmm... Perhaps a warm fire would change your mind. But first, we gotta find wood."

Jake pointed to a tree on the other side of the road.
Jake: "How about that tree there?"

"I wouldn't be goin' near that tree if I was you, boy."

"That thing's got rads all over it. Some pretty big scorpions too!"

"Lets just keep walkin'."
Jake: "Alright... You haven't told me your name yet."

"Name's Monroe Smith, but you can just call me Smith."

As the sun began to set, Jake and Smith came upon a small group of trees.

Jake watched as Smith began to cut one of the trees down.

Smith: "There we are. Nice and warm. Now tell me, what been eatin' at ya?"

Jake gave a small pause, then spoke.
Jake: "I failed her."
Smith: "Who?"
Jake gave another pause.
Jake: "A friend. The military took her away."

Smith: "I see. You were in the Eden then? I heard about what happened there. Whole city was destroyed."

Jake: "But why? The war hadn't reached the U.S, and they just started attacking... Something about 'Gods will'."

Smith: "Interesting. Not sure I know nothin' about God sartin' the war... How did you survive when the bombs fell on the city?"

Jake: "I hid in an RPG crater. Blast went right over me."

Smith: "You're a lucky man Jake... Well, best get some shut eye. We have a ways to travel tomorrow."

Quoting Jeremy Thompson I'm pretty well certain that hiding in a crater created by an RPG wouldn't save you from a nuclear warhead. I did a research project on them and the only real surrvivabillity would to be ahundred some miles a way in a mass structure. But kudos for the serries though not bad
I never said anything about nuclear warheads. Haha, I get your point, but Im just gonna go with "it was a different kind of bomb" and "it makes for a good story" :P

Quoting Destiny of darkness (liam ross) great episode, its not really the safest choice to sleep out in the middle of no where with only one pistol between them both, maradures maight get them!
Theres more than just a pistol between them. Besides, Marauders don't come out at night.

Quoting Jonathan Ladner Nice entry, i used the music, and it set the feel for the comic really well, great choice! I like how your hinting at the story, the war, all the reason for whats happeneing, great story, loveing it! I want to make my own comic some time and seeing how your music did this for your MOC really inspires me to do the same! Dont really want to do some of the songs from Halo that are like this, i feel like there reserved so the master chief, cortana, the arbiter, and all the brave men and women of the UNSC (ok taking a little to far, just a game, but its the thought that counts :) )
Ya, I love adding music. If you're going to do the same, I suggest creating a HUGE selection of songs to pick from first, with many different moods, themes and lengths. As for actually using premade music, the only thing I try to avoid is adding music that is easily recognizable to a certain movie/game.

Quoting Captain Stryke Amazing! I've been working on nighttime lighting like that for ages but can't do it! How do you do that?!?!
I have a lamp that can be adjusted, so I just set that really low, and took the pictures mid-day so some natural light was coming in the room. Had to do it when the clouds were partially blocking the sun though. It was kinda just luck :P

Quoting Christian Schlichting Wished for a longer dialogue, the music was long enough for some more stuff. Radiated objects are lime green, eh? Classic :)I think of some religious fanatics in US government or something like that. Killing the own people while war is a strange idea.
So thats all you think is going on, hmm? Good, I got you right where I want you :)

Awesome chapter, nice to see more of the backstory developing. Interesting to see where the story goes from here. Oh, and Christian Boaz, leaving a cliff hanger keeps them coming back for more of the story. If you don't, it will start to get boring! Anyway, Nice job!

Quoting christian boaz Ugh! i like how you set up the story, and continure to puzzle us at whats about to happen. If its ok i would like to request a long story, maybe two or three times as long as this.
You mean a long story overall? Or longer episodes? Cuz the episodes are going to be about the same length every time with a few variations. The ending episodes will be longer though. The entire story, however, is going to be very long. I have fifty episodes (aside from the prologue and epilogue) planned and we're only on number fourteen right now.

Looks pretty cool. Now we know how he survived the bombing... This episode builds up your story very nicely.
