Log trailer for my US Trucks scale 1:17,5 with PF and lights. It features solid axle suspension, landing gear, parkingbrake and extentable rear impact guard.

About this creation

I'm not sure why but I've always been attracted to the US log trucks. Since my excavator CAT 318C (I'll show this one on MOCpages and BS soon too) comes with a logging grapple I couldn't stand the seduction to finally build one. In the future I'll build a typical day cab US log truck, the once the trailer can be stacked on the rear end of the truck it self. For now I settle with a semi-trailer that goes with my tractor units.

Because of the limited weight that can be lifted with my excavator I choose short logs. With this decision comes the need for more holders to keep the load in place. Together with the limited height near the gooseneck I could not other than dividing the payload area into three segments. Out of practical view all segments are equal, only the height is deferent.
The approach of the holders is quite easy and very strong the same time, Technic Liftarms “bolted” together with Wedge Plates 3 x 3 Cut Corner do the job very good.

As logs I use a bamboo alike plant that grows near a pond in the village I live in here in the Netherlands. I have absolutely no idea which plant it is, but it's extremely light and therefor suites its purpose easily. Again I did hide the battery box in the rear part of the trailer like I did with both previous trailers. Together with the mudflaps attached to it the battery box become a nice part of the trailer it self.

Obviously this trailer is again equipped with both parking brake and landing gear I used before. The frame of this trailer is basically an extended version of the one I used with my drop deck trailer. This drop deck trailer was equipped with a simple suspension system using a tandem bogie. Its successor, the reefer I build that accompanies my US Truck 1, comes with a more sophisticated system inspired by the once I use on the trucks. This time I equipped this trailer with three axles to make it even more different.

One additional feature I do like a lot is this remotely operated extendable rear impact guard. No it is not really sophisticated, but it's fun though... :-) Here is how I came up with the idea. Since the PF IR Receivers do have two channels and I only use one for both the parking brake and landing gear one remains unused. Wouldn't it be convenient if one could extend the rear impact guard if logs are a little to long...in real life and in “Lego” life...so that is basically how this idea was born.

Again this trailer fits all my other already build or will be build truck as well. Like I wrote before with the drop deck trailer one of my main goals is to make sure all my trucks and trailers are interchangeable. I really really hope this approach might lead to having others to share these concepts too so we could in the future for example on events exchange trucks and trailers...I think that would be fun!!!
