A fictional cathedral based on two real cathedrals - St. Patrick's in New York City and Chartres Cathedral in France.
About this creation
The basic floorplan and most of the features are based on the neo-gothic style St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.
Whereas the more classical gothic style such as flying buttresses and the asymmetrical towers are based on Chartres Cathedral in France.
The Cathedral sits on eight 32x32 baseplates, and breaks apart in four baseplate pair sections.
It features a full interior, swinging bells, "stained glass", plenty of interesting SNOTwork, and resident minifigs.
Planning and construction took about five months.
Many elements were taken from or inspired by other builders, including the stained glass designs.
The interior includes the Cathedra, the main altar, a ciborium with high altar, tabernacle, reliquaries, pews and a church organ.
The cathedral has seating for more than 100 minifigs.

One of the best works I've seen. I always thought St. Patrick's was old Gothic, as opposed to neo-Gothic. Silly me! The architecture here seems perfect. |

Having had the chance to travel all over Germany and also parts of Italy while growing up, I have seen some of the most extravagant and extraordinary churches around and I can honestly say that this captures the detail, intricacies and even cavernous quality of them all. That being said, Catholic churches have WAY more gold everywhere! LOL Truly a masterpiece!~H |

If you had to build a Catholic church, at least you dedicated it to a guy who chose never to be ordained a priest, and loved nature and animals. |

This is absolutely stunning. It's extremely hard to create a beautiful exterior and interior at the same time since those two terms usually do not fit together in lego, but you pulled it off perfectly. All of the major structural elements of the gothic architecture was pulled off perfectly. My favorite of which being both the rose window and flying buttresses. Fantastic work overall! |

Simply amazing! The detail along the roofline alone is outstanding, but the modularity, clean and beautiful interior, and flying buttresses send this one to heights rarely attained by mere mortals. I can hear the bells ring, calling the faithful to worship. If it weren't for the fact that I cannot stand the work of the poet John Dunne, I'd be tempted to quote him here. |
