With the recession hitting the auto makers, aftermarket manufacturers are not doing any better. In attempt to increase brand awareness, Brembo, with collaboration from Nissan, created their first automobile. They simply called it "Brembo". This machine is aimed to compete with the likes of Ariel Atom and KTM's X-Bow. There are only a few of these in existence in the moment and all of them will be in the auto show circuit. Even though, it is only a prototype, this is a very well tested and 99% complete car.
With impressive numbers in the performance department this can be a hit, if it will ever enter production. A lightweight Nissan-sourced 2.5 liter four cylinder engine is used as a base, which later gets modified inside and out by Nismo, with high compression pistons (12:1) and magnesium crank, this beast revs up to 10,000rpm with ease. Paired up with individual throttle bodies and high-flow tubular manifold with variable exhaust flaps for better performance throughout the rpm range this power-plant puts out an impressive 320hp @ 8,000rpm and 300ft.lb @ 2,500rpm.
All these ponies are sent to rear wheels through 6-speed manual transmission with Quaife LSD and propel this 1,250lbs rocket to 180mph, passing the first 1/4 mile in mere 10sec @130mph. 0-60mph performance just as impressive at 2,7sec. Stopping distance is a record beating 90 feet from 60-0mph, it is "Brembo" after all. The body is composed of an aluminium space frame and a carbon fiber body.
"Brembo" produced 5 units and they will be displayed in the "Brembo" booths at the Auto Shows throughout the world comes 2011. If the car is well received within the Auto Show circuit there is a chance of production and even racing versions with more powerful engine. Rumor has it that Brembo might make a surprise appearance in the upcoming season of Top Gear. We'll just have to wait and see.
