This is the Recon Runner 2.0 in Blue. It's built off of the same frame as the 1.0. Enjoy! MEP
About this creation
This is the Recon Runner 2.0 in blue (yes, that does mean Iím making more). The frame is the same as with the 1.0, except for the notable difference of arms. The R.R. 2.0 was developed as a combat and civilian counterpart of the 1.0, and in the design process the engineers quickly realized how much more efficient a battle/civilian mech could be with arms. Also, the side clips, or holsters, for the automatic pistols can be seen on the 1.0. This may perhaps have been a foreshadowing of the next version of the Recon Runner, or maybe simply a style enhancement. The legs were kept the same, as well as the cockpit since the legs had already been fine-tuned to run quickly even with added weight (the 1.0 carried a grappling hook that could also be used to hold large parcels of baggage) and the cockpit itself was strong and easy to reproduce in mass quantities. The added combat platform on the back, which has slots for different items, was key in the Recon Runnerís adaptability.
Enough jargon. Hereís the Recon Runnerís portfolio pictures, one for each side.
I finally found some of the stickers from the Exo-Force Stealth Hunter set I got way back in time, and decided to try them on the white-tinted hood. The result was much better than I could have hoped for.
The hood opens just the same as with the Recon Runner 1.0, and the cockpit is exactly the same as well, but with a tad more cargo space.
The Communications Tower is one of the interchangeable attachments for the platform. All battle-mechs need one when working in groups like the Recon Runner is designed for. Also, it works as a nice little flag so enemies can pin down where you are.
The Missile Pod is another interchangeable attachment for the platform. This missile pod can carry four missiles. The red ďcheeseĒ slope is a laser targeting system.
The arm was built from trial and error, and error again. I finally found the right design at two in the morning when I was in a dead sleep. I suddenly woke up and drew the connection pins and in the morning built the sucker. The arms and the hands both have many articulation points.
The Leg clip mentioned earlier (and also seen on the 1.0) is now shown performing its function: holstering an automatic pistol. (Yes, I up-scaled my Automatic pistol from the Sci-Fi weapons MOC. Iím working on more at the moment as well.)
Another picture to show the pin itself. (What, you thought Iíd make you go back to the 1.0?)
Hope you enjoyed the Recon Runner 2.0! Please leave any suggestions for a 3.0, weapon designs, interchangeable parts for the platform (in both battle and civilian uses) and colors youíd like to see the Recon Runner in. Also, if you decide to build a Recon Runner of your own, please give credit where itís due and let people know you got the design and concept from Master Emerald Phoenix over on MOCpages. Thank you!
