For this model I started with the official set. I then went to modifying it to more accurately reflect the one in the movie. It's not quite minifig scale, but it's close enough to look cool and still have some detail.
According to the Incredible Cross Sections book, one would be able to cram four speeder bikes back where the rear door is on the ship. That's a real load of crap, unless the bikes are piloted by pixies. Even on this slightly downsized version, I could not squeeze one in there.
The door fully deployed. Most of the workings around there are very similar to Gareth Bowler's UCS RGS. Come to think of it, one speeder bike MIGHT fit, but it's too much trouble, and then there's less room for troops.
Pilot compartment sans windscreen. You can sort of see that I nixed that stripe on the gunner's windscreen. It would look super cool, but I don't have the right windscreen parts to really play around with it.
Detail shot of the side gunner station. I spent nearly an hour engineering this little bit, and it's only a half-sphere. Making it a whole sphere jsut left too much of a gap in between the halves, or too little space for the blaster and cool-looking seat.
Very good. I love the way you handeled the rocket barren launchers. Can you send me some pics on how to build and attact the barrels? I'm working on my ship now and I thought you handeled them better then me. I think I have an idea of how you did them but I'd like you send me some pics please. Thanks!
