Displaying Custom Minifigs: A Tutorial
Because I'm tired of seeing minifigs posted as MOCs themselves.
About this creation
Well....

You guys may have noticed the "clones are art" dilema going around, and I've decided to take it a step further.

How, you ask?

By making my opinion known on posting minifigs as MOCs as a whole. Simply a rant wouldn't do much but start a flame war, so how about a tutorial? Easy, I tell you why I dissaprove of your actions and even give you an easy way to fix it!

Now TLG considers minifigs as simply four pieces (legs, torso with arms, head and any headgear). May I remind you LEGO is a building toy. Four pieces isn't much of a build, don't you think?

Now you have your minifig, that your pretty proud of. Frankly I wouldn't normally comment on something like this, simply because it's only a minifigure. A simple vig would work wonders for me.

As you can see the vig can even give your character a "feeling" to him/her. For example this vig gives this character a "lone wolf" feeling.

Now for those of you that say "i sok at boildin" as an excuse for not making a display vig I'd like for you to examine this vig.

It's simple, completely studs up, without the slightest hint of SNOT or any techniques whatsoever. Regardless of your building skills this shouldn't be much of a challenge.

This doesn't mean display vigs should be simple, if you want to make it complicated then by all means do so. Take this for example:

Murder in the Hallway... A good deal more complicated than the first vig, this also draws people who like a good vig more than a minifig. This can also be done to make worse minifigs look better.

See? Not as hard as you told yourself it was.

You're right! A good background brings out the essence of a good minifig! Oh, and the greebling on the second vig is pretty good!

Quoting eric waite I'd love to see a post about posting 'custom guns'!
Basically make the gun. Make a fig for it. Then follow this tutorial.

@Commander Blast: As stated on the MOC, a rant would just incite a flamewar, and I recalled some comments on Flickr on Jonathan's post saying that setting example would be better than to simply insult.

Nice tutorial! I'll keep this in mind, the next time I post a minifigure. I really like the last picture, with the U.N.E. soldier and the C.O.P. trooper. 4/5!

Look at that new 3 dollar atlantis set with mini fig and rock. They must be getting cheap. I got some old legos and the OLD Lukes Land speeder set with the minifigs at a yard sale for 12$. But as for the moc as for the moc this is great presentation, clones are generally disliked are built by the semi non skilled which is the younger that like clones When this generation of kids is older they might build better mocs and little kids will like monkeys. Bottom line these mocs could help people like me but no younger because half of the probably cant read or sharpied the computer screen with the 501st.

Excellent point and advice Juan. Bravo on this. You are so right about the vig, even simple, giving the fig a "feeling".

Yeah! Tell it like it is Juan! Im so sick of people posting crappy minifigs as entire MOCs. And for the people who say "i sok at boildin", here's my response: "Then don't post anything on mocpages in the first place!"... Great tutorial :)
