Imperial Saber Class Assault Fighter
Saber Class Assault Ship Lego Stats Length (Landing Configuration): 80 studs Length (Wings Deployed): 71 studs Width (Landing Configuration): 62 studs Width (Wings Deployed): 128 studs Height 15 studs Star Wars Universe Stats Manufacturer Sienar Fleet Systems Model: GTA-16 Saber Assault Ship Class: Heavy Starfighter/Assault Shuttle Length (Landing Configuration): 27 meters Length (Wings Deployed): 24 meters Width (Landing Configuration): 21 meters Width (Wings Deployed): 43 meters Height: 5 meters Decks: 2 (Slightly Staggered) Speed in MGLT: 90 Max Speed (Atmosphere): 1,500 km/h Hyperdrive Rating: 2.0 Armament: 2 x Heavy Laser Cannons 1 x Twin Laser Cannon Turret 3 x Proton Torpedo Launchers (2 forward, 1 aft) 24 Torpedoes 1 retractable light laser cannon + various hard points for missions specific weapon systems. Crew: 4 Passengers: A maximum of two stromtrooper squads. Consumables: 2 months Cargo Capacity: 40 metric tons The Saber Class was Sienar Fleet Systems attempt to build a small, blast boat type ship that would appeal to the sensibilities of Imperial Navy Commanders. SFS’s excellent GTA-12 Skipray Blastboat had met only limited success. It was a fine ship, but the Imperial Navy wanted large, flashy cruisers, not glorified heavy star fighters. This meant that Sienar was essentially shut out of a potentially very profitable segment. Small ships were easy to mass produce and returned greater profit on material cost for the corporation. Sienar decided to build a dual role craft that might be more appealing to potential military customers. The result of two years of design work was the Saber class. It was designated an Assault Ship, rather than as a blast boat or starfighter. It could perform a number of roles including capital ship assaults, starfighter engagements, scouting missions and could even deliver storm troopers into hot combat zones. The ship was built around its two wing mounted heavy laser cannons. These rotating cannons were more powerful than anything previously mounted on a ship less than 100 meters long. To power these immense weapons, the ship carries two of the reactors that power the GTA-12 blast boat and additionally has two solar ionization panels on the top side of the wing that provide supplementary heat dispersal much like on the TIE fighter. These heat dispersal panels are necessary to allow the ship to bleed enough excess heat while maintaining a very high average power output. This led to the need for the crafts large wings. An arrangement similar to the TIE fighter was attempted, but a more conventional wing design was chosen because it could be folded closer to the craft for landing. Because of this ability to fold the wings inward, more craft could dock in Imperial cruisers and space stations. The rear section of the ship contained the reactors and hyper drive in a large, armored “hump”. Below this area was the main cargo hold which could either deliver speeder bikes or troops to any hot zone on a planate. The main habitable area is located in the long “neck and head” portion of the craft. This includes the cockpit, bunk area and additional space for assault troops. This section can detach and act as an escape pod or auxiliary craft for more covert landings. Like the Skipray, the Saber met with limited success. It was an excellent ship capable of engaging craft many times its size, but it was expensive. It’s multi role capability made it more appealing to some Imperial Commanders, as did its massive firepower but it also was seen as a bit of an oddity by most Imperial Brass. The destruction of the 2nd Death Star meant that few of these ships were ever produced, although some Imperial Remnant forces used them to great effect in hit and run raids and even during full scale battles with the New Republic. The New Republic now has copies of the design as well as captured craft, but it is unknown if they intend to produce any of the craft themselves. Rumors that the smuggler Kyle Ceran http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/78959 has acquired one of these ships go unverified.

Quoting Achintya Prasad It is very good, but I think that you should call it along the lines of "Klingon Troop Landing Craft", it looks too Klingon to be Star Wars.
I did take a lot of my inspiration from the Klingon's. But the Star Wars extended universe has a huge diversity of ships, and I think this could fit right along with a Imperial Landing Craft or Blastboat.

Woa.... amazing... awesome. Really great job. Looks like a cross between a Klingon BOP and Tauri X-303 with a Star Wars twist. Very nice.

I like it, its an interesting idea to bring the BoP into the Star Wars universe and one upping it with the folding wing design.

Quoting Mandalore The Ultimate it looks almost exactly like a Klingon Bird 'O Prey
Thats what I was going for, but I wanted to make it a lot smaller and put it in the Star Wars universe. Also, because Star wars is all about folding wings, I wanted them to come into the craft somehow. Making them fold forward seemed a logical step to make if different from the BOP while making it fit in SW.

Thanks, like I said I really liked this ship, but the new format of MOC pages means it has been really slow in getting any attention. So once again, thanks for the comment.
